Let's not get everything mixed up. Silas was overwhelmed with this job obviously, he was not a good defensive coach, obviously. What he did do is generate semi open looks to open looks. That was the only thing he did alright.
Who are you saying was the best in the draft class? Paolo the media driven rookie of the year? Jabari was better than Banchero in most categories last year and that doesn’t even take into account defense and his surge after the all-star break. I’ve posted the comparison many times. Jabari better %3pt, %2pt, Rebounds, Stls, Blks, Ft%, only got beat on points (Banchero focus of offense for magic), and assists. Jabari had less turnovers.
Banchero and i honestly can't believe you are actually implying that Jabari had a better rookie year. Jabari 80% of the season looked like a G-League player are you kidding me? At some point of the season (probably after 50 sth games) i looked at his fg% and it was .385. Below Kwame's rookie year fg%. He was bust man. He only managed to look half decent in the last 20 sth games. Don't be stat nerd pls Banchero can do so many things Jabari can't. At least he can create his own shot and pass. He looks like he one day will be top 15 player itl.
Oh, so he just sucked at making wide-open ones? Interesting. I know the coaches coulda done more, but Bari was throwing up wide-open bricks for most of the year. That's on him. I think it was mental.
He won’t fill out for a couple years. Muscle gain is a slow process when you need to maintain nba caliber athleticism.
Bricking open shots was absolutely on him. Coaching doing nothing to find ways to fix it though was criminal
I’m not even the one your responded to, and I don’t think Jabari had a better rookie year … but this is an insanely dumb post. You are going to quote Jabari’s FG% as an argument for Paolo? Jabari shot better from 3 and better from 2 despite his horrendous start. Paolo had a (barely) better total FG% because he took fewer 3s. Mix matters. “Don’t be a stat nerd.” LOL. It’s like a 5’6” guy playing a 7 footer 1 on 1 and saying “come on, don’t be such a tall guy” Jabari had a horrible first half last year and a mediocre second half. Paolo was great to start and mediocre after that. It is not at all clear who will be better in three years.
It's a different rhythm shooting off the dribble versus catch-and-shoot. Wonder if that could have something to do with it? Seems like a solvable problem one way or another.
This is a dumb response. Jabari was bust almost 80% of the season not just first half of the season that's downplaying how dogshit he was. Banchero had a bad 10 game stretch in 2nd half of the season. He missed every single shot from behind the arc but it was a rookie wall since he then went on to averaging almost 0.4.
There's a difference between a good shooter who is struggling and a mediocre shooter who is confirming he's not a good shooter. Banchero's biggest question mark coming into the draft was his shooting. Smith's biggest strength coming into the draft was his shooting.
Nah its because KPJ wouldnt whisper to and kiss the ball before making a feathery smooth and gentle pass that massaged Jabaris hands (all the shooters really) and helped him/them make those wide open shots. Duh.
One guy is a 6-9 250 lb playmaker - the other guy is a role player who wasn't particularly good at his roles. It's clear to me and everyone who voted for all Rookie etc who is likely to be better
The solution is so standard. Kids do dumb things. Coaches are there to find solutions. You run plays in the first or second quarter to get his confidence up. The solution to a mental issue is never to just think different. It's to actually do something different.
You will see. Banchero is a crummy shooter. He does have good size and good court vision. Stats don’t lie. Top 15, LOL.
