denver has a lot of big guys on perimeter to make up for Jokic poor defense. Do we have the personnel to rely on Sengun as the sole interior defense? Or do we need to either pair him with someone or have him split duties? I think that’s a very difficult decision to make going into next season. Given where we are as a team, I’d lean towards leaning on Sengun. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. Nobody expects us to win next season. ideally, I’d like to sign a veteran, defensive minded center to backup Sengun, teach him, and also occasionally play next to him so we can keep his vision on court at the end of games. I also think Sengun can improve on defense, at least positionally.
Getting Capela to come off the bench for a couple years us fine with me. Porzingis and Turner actually fit with Sengun also IMO.
I question the validity of this info. Other than that my feeling is that Udoka will play a bigger line-up and centers will get more time than before.
They didn't hide Joker, he played positional defense and angles. Not to mention, he understands angles. Look, I played d1 hoops, I have a pretty good understanding of hoops that alot of people don't. Joker isn't a bad defensive player, he nevr was. Joker has a high bbiq on the defensive end and he know how to play his size which is all he has to do. He stays down, plays his arms which are long and wide frame. Sengun can learn to play angles and position, but he will never deter guys because he's 6'9 with short arms. I do see some of the passing and he can be a better shooter with reps, but they need a Mo Bamba defensively or a guy imo like KAT who can play against the bigger players and can also stretch defenses and post or mid post.
https://www.nba.com/player/1630578/alperen-sengun Officially listed as 6'11. Jokic is also listed as 6'11, but I would say he is an inch taller than Sengun. Sengun has a long neck, Jokic's shoulders are higher.
Sometimes guys get lost in the mix. Plus its a matter of numbers too, not making excuses. You get a long defender who can protect the rim and shoot the 3 and set screens along with guarding the bigger more athletic players. That gives the team verisitility with Eason and KM off the bench across the frontline. If you're trying to get through Denver, you're going to need a player who can take the pressure defensively off Sengun.
Sengun is one of the few players on the Rox who know how to play basketball. Kinda sour on Green ,KPJ and the backcourt. Jabari,Eason,Sengun,KM are the few I consider keepers for now. The other can kick rocks.
I felt like that about our backcourt last year, but I would give them (even KPJ, if the team doesn't move him) a chance under Ime. I'm not very hopeful with regards to KPJ though. He has the talent, but I don't trust his judgment.
Apparently Tari on ig live said that Sengun was 6'10 last season and came back 7ft tall. I dunno if they measured him again or he told Tari and others that he's been growing this offseason and they are believing his words but it's interesting nonetheless. If he's really 7fter or even 6'11 now then we are cooking.
