I see many threads of why each player would be awesome on our team, but this is to see what ClutchFans wants if we get to this scenario:

When Silver comes to the podium for our pick, Scoot is still on the board along with Amen. What do you do?

I vote Scoot, even though I like Amen.

But kinda sounds like Rockets might like Amen better, or at least have them in the same tier. Which is odd, even to me. *shrug*

Don't think Scoot will drop to 4 though.

    4th pick syndrome.

yeah the rockets are supposed to admit there's a big difference between the top 3 which has been consistently regarded as the top tier. and conveniently where they're drafting at 4. #commonsense

If we want Scoot we are gonna have to pay what it takes to move up one or two spots and get him. I’m skeptical we’ll do that because like all coaches, I’m sure Ime is not excited about going all in on a rookie. It would likely require one of our core players plus the #4 pick. Many on this board think that’s too much, but I think that’s what it will take. Stone is too in love with his guys; I just don’t see that happening. There may be a better chance the rockets trade out than trade up.

Houston trying to pull some Orlando type of mind game here.

Something tells me they won't do it as smoothly.

Scoot definitely won't slide past three. Don't want Amen. Again, you trade down a couple of spots or so for Walker and collect the ransom for Amen.

This org isn't really great at talent evaluation anyway. Sengun and Tari were obviously both tremendous value picks, but otherwise... not sold on Stone's opinion.

It’s pretty impossible to envision a scenario where Scoot falls to us without Amen going top 3. I’m going to say it’s Scoot.

The Rockets have every interest to portray little difference between the two to lower the value of the third or second pick.

KPJ for a second rounder are steals. Green and Smith seem to be the right choices.

So ya I don't see an issue with young talent evaluation. I just see an issue with an introvert assistant coach being a head coach for the past three years. That's the worst decision Stone has made so far.

    Agreed.

I think the only semi-plausible way that happens is if CHA or POR just really likes Cam Whitmore (or...maybe Ausar?). I don't think that's very likely though.

Honestly...I kinda gave up on the Scoot dream shortly after lottery night, even though I think many are still holding out hope for that to happen.

i now think it might be negligence on stone’s part if he doesn’t offer #4 plus bkn picks or #4 plus one of green/bari/alpi… whichever CHA wants

because scoot is going to be that good

Disagree. People have been overrating both Mobley and Paolo. I honestly believe Jabari Smith will be the best of the last 2 drafts and Jalen and Mobley will be a toss up based on what you prefer, offense or defense. Stone has not been good on trade decisions, but he has been excellent in the draft.

    Disagree on Mobley and Paolo.

But let's pretend for a moment that I don't disagree.

Should Stone get credit for drafting Jabari at #3? The draft had a universally-perceived top 3. We had the 3rd pick and we draft the 1 of those 3 that was available. That's not really that impressive - it's the obvious move. 30/30 GMs would have done the same thing.

Stone has done a decent job with trades considering it wasn't just about the trades. Majority or all of the veterans Stone traded went to championship contenders. Tucker won a championship with the Bucks, Harden went to his preferred destination (Brooklyn), Capela went to Hawks (playoffs). Wood went to a great situation in Dallas. Gordon went to the Clippers. I'm sure I'm missing someone.

The trades had a lot to do with making the players and their agents happy. Stone most likely could have gotten more in return for some of the trades if he didn't give a damn where the player ended up. The improved or repaired relationships with some of these agents will pay off for the Rockets in the future. Starting this coming season, hopefully.
