The math does not add up......5 years would be crazy for a 29 year old given how easy it is to blow things up. And teams are iffy about trading for a soon to be 30+ year old player. 233 is definitely questionable. 133 sounded better.
Where have you seen that Dame wants out? If he does that is a game changer for a lot of teams. With the new CBA and the incredible inflation going on right now, Grant is worth 25m easy. If Dame really wants out then we can forget about Scoot or trading up, which is already a long shot, for the Rockets at least.
That’s what the SI report said. Does seem high and I wonder if they confused supermax with a max contract. He was reported to be eligible for 5 years 233.2 mil. This is essentially 46 mil a year with Portland. That would be about 35% of the projected 134 mil salary cap, which is a supermax contract. max contract (25% of salary cap) which he is eligible for would be about 33 mil a year. The new CBA allows a vet extension at 140% their salary which equals about 28 mil of his previous 20 mil a year deal. He already turned down a 4 year 112 mil extension deal with Portland to get the max deal. https://www.si.com/nba/rockets/news...portland-trail-blazers-jerami-grant-ime-udoka
Really? Have you been living under a rock my friend. Every day Dame hints at such. The latest is, preference to go to Miami as top destination. I never expected Scoot to be there for Houston at #4 and I wouldn't give up anything to move up. I find it amazing that billions upon billions tell me Best Player Available and then they think Blazers or Hornets will pass on them. Someone told me; but Kupchak said he is going Fit.... No, I can see MJ and Mich Kupchak seeing Scoot as a piece of iron that's durable and how they are ready to send LaMelo packing if he gets hurt again. Id take Jerami Grant or Siakim
@Hemingway Just one of many Nobody can afford the Dame contract. Portland is not trading him and taking pennies on the dollar.
If Dame wants out (I’ll take your word for it). It is bad news for the Rockets, because they will definitely take Scoot at 3 if he’s there. I really don’t want Amen. Jerami is their only resource that we will have much interest in, but he is a FA and I’m not sure why he would want to join the Rockets unless we extremely over pay him or give him too many years. He would be an excellent fit though, so if you are confident he will still be productive when he is 33. Maybe we can use our assets to facilitate a trade and get something of worth. I know you don’t like it, but I think Ime is committed to Sengun being our main facilitator in the half-court making Jerami a great fit at Pf and moving Jabari to 3. PIck up Cam or Jarace at no. 4 and a vet PG to come off the bench.
I don't want Amen or Ausar either. I the video I posted Dame said he didn't want to wait two or three years on 19 year olds to figure things out. I doubt he would go from the Portland life boat to the Houston life boat. Unfortunately for Portland he goes from $45.6m to $63.2m (in 26/27). Hard to trade without taking back piecemeal in return. I truly expect the Rockets to trade #4 and move back and/or bring in a vet presence that way. I want one more wing to go with Jabari and Tari.....but I'm greedy and don't mind getting two (Siakim and Jerami Grant) Personally I love the idea of: Jabari-Siakim-Tari-Jerami Grant- and any point guard that can shoot. Udoka could do wonders with the height, mobility, athleticism, defensively and offensively.....all hitting 3's and creating spacing for each other.
Yes to Jeremi Grant at SF. I keep thinking Jabari's future might be at the power forward position. Ditto Sengun. And wouldn't Walker Kessler or Harty be decent Cs? Genuine backstops, those. So we need a PG. Shead at 20?
Looks like Grant had his best scoring year in 2020/2021 with Detroit at SF. And he’s a better shooter now. I’d definitely rather put him at the wing than Jabari. Plus Jabari’s taller; we need to keep developing him at the 4.
Would like to flank Sengun with J.Grant and Jabari. It protects Sengun with defensive minded pieces along with Tari. So perhaps FVV would be a better option next to Jalen, another shooter who plays defense, and does not need the ball maximizing Senguns play making abilities. Not sure if we can afford both players though but this lineup is closest to the Nuggets and the Rockets still have a the 4th pick and numerous tradable assets to procure another vet
Sengun/? Jabari/Grant/Tari Grant/Tari Green/KPJ FVV/TyTy 4th pick Trade #20/KJ/Christopher/Garuba/Tate for something good.
I wasn’t suggesting Dame to Rockets. I would absolutely hate that move, due to the assets it would cost. I would like Jerami though. Hell no, to rental Siakim. You are going to have to adjust to the idea of Sengun running point in the half court, because that is going to be what happens. Jerami is a great fit, even if he is the only vet we sign.
I like Jerami as well but I’m not sure the numbers work as he is demanding a max contract. He already turned down a 28 mil/year extension and wants that max 33 mil contract. Rockets could offer him a 4 year deal around this figure. That’s quite a bit and I’m not sure if we should devote this much amount into a player his caliber. There’s always a sign and trade option to unload some of our contracts (Tate, KMJ). It will be interesting to see what Stone does.
Yes, the money and years are my concern as well, but I might still take the plunge because the fit is really good.
Maybe....I'm eating crow on Jokic never getting by the first round. I do concede that Denver has it this year. But they did it with two big MPj and Aaron Gordon types next to him. I don't understand Speolstra going micro ball with Lowry and Gabe Vincent long stretches. But that's neither here nor there.....tip of the cap to Denver. I've advocated for Aaron Gordon types for years. Along with @D-rock we pushed for Aaron Gordon trades. Jokic did fine next to Aaron Gordon and Udoka had the main players of Tatum, Brown, Smart and added Brogdan & Galanari You are suggesting Udoka can get Jalen Green, KPj, Sengun and Siakim all together. You might be surprised what Udoka can do. Jabari is more MPj.....more spot up shooting. Until they train him up otherwise.
That’s what I wrote. Yes he did and he turned it down wanting a max contract. Basically they gave him an extension in accordance to new CBA 40% increase. He wants a max at about 33 mil.
Doesn't hurt to ask. There are currently only four teams that could offer that amount. And one of those has already traded him away once. You could gamble that a team might overpay once free agents start coming off the market, but you also run the risk of all money drying up and getting stuck taking a below market deal after passing on a fair offer (a la Dennis Schroeder a couple of years back).
Like this idea and I would try to add both Cam Johnson & Jerami Grant in free agency. Rockets would be really long, athletic and ability to switch everything on defense (while also adding more 3pt shooting around Sengun). Houston could use their mid-level exception on a veteran point guard (DJ Augustin, Dennis Schroeder types, etc.) Sengun/Tari/Garuba Jabari/Cam Johnson Grant/KJ Martin/Tate Green/Christopher KPJ/Washington/Dennis Schroeder(Patrick Beverley or insert your veteran PG here ) Rockets still would have #4 & 20 picks to develop along with veteran PG added w/ veteran's exception. Nuggets have shown Rockets the blueprint for success and we now have the correct coach to hold our players accountable. I would not trade any of our young guys until at least a season under Udoka (except for Nix; we could probably just cut him).
