Okay. No problem at all. Tell me which you think is worse, getting rid of a statue or removing Jefferson's actual contributions to the founding of our nation from education? https://www.texastribune.org/2010/03/22/sboe-removes-thomas-jefferson-blames-media/
They were doing worse Taliban-like things back in 2010. But these conservatives weren't upset back then. Only then it was even more like the Taliban because they were getting rid of it from education. Come to think of it... You were silent on the matter as well.
Laughable response from trump... Maybe if trump studied at school or had any interest at all in American history and knowledge of the Constitution he would know James Madison was the principal author of the Constitution (and Bill of Rights). Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence, was in France as the ambassador to France at the time and kept up with the work being done of the Constitution through letters with Madison. At best it is correct to say he reviewed the documents Madison sent him, but he wasn't the principal writer by any measure.
Honestly, I wanna say something but the continued dismantling of statues for no good reason is disturbing... simply doesn't make any sense
That guy, General Schuyler, was cited for dereliction of duty (acquitted) and later faced an unrelated court martial (acquitted) and then resigned. And then he owned a bunch of slaves. Sounds like statue material to me, especially right in front of the Albany City Hall, in the State Capitol of New York. Move it somewhere else, problem solved.
so he was acquitted twice? the "unrelated" court martial was one he asked for to rebut the charges from the first. you mention it like it's somehow relevant to having his statue removed. are you in favor of removing the Washington monument? Jefferson Memorial?
There's minimal historic but some artistic value in some of these, so I'm cool with them being moved. I also just noticed that this was erected in 1925, just about the height of the klan, when cities like Houston loved to name the streets and schools and such that went through black parts of town after people like Dick Dowling.
No, because they weren't also complete failures as military commanders. Should we keep Forts Bragg and Hood? Should we name one after my relative, Sibley?
Was Schuyler a complete failure as a military commander? there seems to be some debate, and in any case, the statue in question was not a military monument, but a state one. he was also a senator. but the standard here is "slave owners", and both Washington and Jefferson qualify.
