The sucky part is that they should have won at least 3 of these 4 games, but it's like they were purposely trying to see how could F' things up more spectacularly. All the little things they do so well are being done so badly.
I'm with you man. Reminds me of what my Dad used to say when I watched the Astros in high school and they were losing or lost, and I didn't do my homework until late at night because I watched them. He's like these guys are going to be just fine. They have their millions and they are going to be just fine. You on the other hand, need to do your damn homework. I don't have homework to do anymore, but the message still applies. I need to start doing something else with my time for a while. I'll still post and I'll still box score follow them, but I'm not going to go to bed as angry as I did last night and lose sleep for the better part of two hours anytime soon.
Things even out. The lineup did put up runs yesterday without Yordan and Pena somehow found magic away from his magic feather #2 spot (although some here will say him batting lower is what probably made him a poor defender in extras). Pressly got touched up. Not worried that he's a head case or he's not going to bounce back. Martinez actually did show enough to at least give him more multi-inning opportunities in the future should the starter falter. Abreu looked better. Still has the ability to hit it hard. Numbers are better than Yuli was at this time last year. Diaz had some productive ab's from the DH spot. Dusty shouldn't hesitate to use him there throughout the Yordan injury (and have him catch and let Altuve DH with Dubon playing 2nd). Then once Yordan is back, he hopefully will be entrenched and likely batting in front of Abreu.
That's the truth because they don't give a **** about us, and no matter how much Dusty ****s up he's got a job for life and Crane's ear.
I don’t believe this. Crane is old school in many ways, hence his affinity for Jackson and Bagwell and Baker. But above all that he considers himself a winner. He will not tolerate mediocrity for long, even from those dudes. My guess is that this season is tracking to be Baker’s last, and Bagwell’s days of having massive influence on offseason decisions are over.
Well that sucked. The season isn't over but this is a crossroads. That game was dearly needed and within grasp multiple times and at some point everyone failed. I wanted to rant and I was going to list every person and what they did to cost the team that win, but who wants to read a novel. This team is not a championship team. It's missing something. Mr. Brown, you were brought in to fix this. It's time. If you wait for the trade deadline it will be too late.
I sure hope you're right. I remember Baker at Cincinnati was asked to fire his hitting coach, and Baker said "If you fire him you'll have to fire me too" so they did.
1) send Blanco and Martinez to Sugar Land and bring up 2 fresh relievers for today's game. If the team knew Abreu wasn't available, and the bullpen was already 1 short from the 6 man rotation, Blanco should have been sent out before the game. 2) stop using Montero in leverage situations. Now, the bullpen is used up and they lost all those games. Today and tomorrow AAAA starters are scheduled with a completely fried bullpen. This could get ugly (uglier) very fast. The Astros need to score early and often today and France needs to be economical and pitch at least 6 innings.
Well at least they're facing a light hitting team. I also like the comments from everybody saying they should have gotten Javier out earlier (spend more bullpen), and now you're suggesting they don't throw one of their relievers in a close game... yet everybody bemoaning the bullpen fatigue and how they need more arms. This is baseball. Its a long season. Stretches like this happen to all teams... some far more often than others. They'll play today, and tomorrow, then they finally get an off day and end this expected tough stretch of 17 games in 17 days. Urquiddy still on track to come back. Brantley started hitting. Trades should happen. Big unknown with Yordan but others have to step up regardless.
KC has some pieces that fit this team's needs like Barlow who is known to be available. But teams don't have to "openly admit" they are fielding offers to trade. There are other teams who have reason to trade and the right offer can make the difference. All he can do is keep trying. Maybe the team is destined for the WC? Even then at least 7 players on this team belong in AAA or a non-contending team. Others are just not playing as well as they can and have in the past. This team is not winning anything without fixing that before September.
They're going to do something... but as every GM (Luhnow, Click, etc.) have always said, trades don't just happen on a whim. Some take months to actually come to fruition after discussions, silence, then re-engaging discussions. I'd also refrain about discussing "destiny". They've won more than any other team in houston pro sports team history, and this will likely be the most successful Astros era ever... for centuries. That is their destiny that they've already well-defined. And they'll continue to be in the hunt for at least 2 more years... then we'll see.
