Not the last 10 games… and Yordan isn’t the #3 hitter anymore. I’m not trying to defend anything. I’m saying acting like the #2 spot is a magic feather for him is the same reasoning pitchers likely have for wanting Maldy to catch them. One gets criticized as dumb logic mercilessly around here, the other is universally praised even though we know that analytically, shouldn’t make much sense… and even less sense now that the best hitter in the lineup is no longer there to protect him.
Pigeon-holing these guys into only specific spots in the lineup based on their body-types or height is old-school Dusty/Jeff Bagwell type managing… exactly what people are trying to criticize on a daily basis. I would have actually loved to see Tucker bat leadoff. He’s this teams best base-stealer, he gets on base (at least when hes going good), and he needs to get more AB’s per game than Dubon
either this offense gonna fold like most of us expected or surprise all of us. whatever it is, i'm here for the complaints lol
Yeah Dusty almost got it right. Diaz catching and McCormick or Dubon DH would give you a much better chance of semi-off-setting Alvarez’s absence. The Maldonado stuff is the most irrational thing I’ve seen in a long time from the Astros. I guess Hinch not putting Cole in game 7 might trump it, although it was a one-time thing not a 2 season thing.
I’m fairly certain Yordan was simply in the way of Jose Abreu’s greatness which will unlock starting tonight.
Except Jeremy has never been a power bat hitting low in the lineup. But yea we can say he needs to man up and maybe that will work
Except Jeremy has never been a power bat hitting low in the lineup. But yea we can say he needs to man up and maybe that will work The big difference is there are strong numbers to back up Peña production hitting second, including playoff MVP trophies There are no numbers showing pitchers do better with Martin behind the plate But maybe that will change. Maybe Jeremy will “man up” and start dominating down there for the first time Personally I’d rather go with what has been proven to be successful, but that’s just me
It’s not the same thing. Statistics are the only objective measure in this instance. Pena is a plus bat when hitting 2nd and it’s not a small sample size anymore. Maldonado statistically is the worst catcher in MLB both offensively and defensively. It is dumb or emotional logic that says move Pena down in the lineup and keep playing Maldonado. It is hunch/luck over logic.
Agree on Tucker But Altuve is far from an old school 2 hole hitter. It’s not like he hits behind runners and does what is needed to move guys from base to base. He goes up there hacking at whatever pitch he likes. He is a hall of fame quality hitter anywhere you put him, but he certainly ain’t old school 2 hole
Peña is misplaced but at least Chas sees a lefty Maybe Yordan's absence will propel Abreu. Don't laugh
Hope you are right But there is nothing at all in his swing that says he is about to get going On Chas, not only should he always face LHP, if we had a manager that paid any attention at all to numbers, Chas would be hitting 4th or 5th vs LHP, he is superstar level against them
It’s ok. I get that they need to give Abreu a lot of rope, because if he reverts to norm our lineup with Alvarez would be virtually unbeatable in spite of Dusty. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Abreu's mishap on the bases yesterday tells me he's mentally broken That and his <.540 OPS Hope I'm wrong
Not trying to be an ass, but I think your eye test kind of failed you on the Pena not doing so well the last 10 games His last 10 games in the 2 hole he was 10 for 38, .263 average with a .364 on base. 8 runs scored. a HR and 3 doubles That may not be superstar level production, but it's pretty dang good
As I just mentioned, he has been fine in his last 10 games in the 2 hole. Has hits in 7 of the 10 games
