Miami is currently the 2nd wild card in the NL. Soler might not be available. The Royals have said they are open for business on Chapman especially if they can move a big salary. Go get Chapman and Perez. Put Diaz at DH, Dubon at 1st, and Chas in LF until Yordan is back.
Agree on the Marlins - they currently have like a 30% chance of the playoffs and may not be selling. I would support getting Perez but I don't think it happens.
I agree it probably doesn't happen but it's a move you could do now and the Astros need the help. Dana also needs to force Dusty's hand. Can't afford the garbage lineups when Yordan is out.
Just like they were at last year's trade deadline...just like they were this past offseason....just like they are now....sheesh.
I feel you are probably right that the Astros don't replace Maldy even though I don't like that decision.
Ideal solutions to all of Houston’s problems: Diaz plays more at C Brantley gets healthy and takes over in LF Abreu finds the fountain of youth at 1B
Yordan getting hurt means that even if Abreu was in line to lose playing time, now it doesn't happen. Get ready for Abreu to keep playing every day and Julks to also play every day, unless they bring up one of the top prospects who will play regularly. K. Lee allowing Diaz to DH? FYI I am still rooting hard for Abreu to start hitting today. Here's another chance, Jose.
It really is that simple, internally if these three things just worked out the way they were supposed to it would be such a difference story.
And since Brown is more badass than expected as McCullers/Verlanders replacement and France has worked out pretty well as the 5th SP (and Urquidy is expected back), the only thing to do would be go get an SP4 to replace Garcia.
Conspiracy theory: the Astros brought up Kessinger to get him some exposure because he’s going to be the primary backup SS when they trade Dubon, who has far higher trade value than anyone realizes due to the utter lack of everyday caliber SS available and his recent performance along with his track record of low k rate and steady fielding. Hypothetical: Astros get: P Maddux Bruns 3B Mairoshendrick Martinus Dodgers get: SS Mauricio Dubon
I think we shift Abreu to DH let Diaz play 1B. This to me would be the best way to go. Then you can add what you wanna add. Bellinger or Solar or both? You need to see what Diaz does at 1B
You gotta be high if you're even considering shopping Dubon at this point... I'm all about analytics, but there is something here w the connection w Yodan... This dude fits... nicely & conveniently within our system. Get used to him, he'll get a contract and be in the Astros org for a hot minute. Care to share why/what gives him clout or credibility to DH....??
I think we shift Abreu to DH let Diaz play 1B. This to me would be the best way to go. Then you can add what you wanna add. Bellinger or Solar or both? You need to see what Diaz does at 1B Because your giving Diaz a change to play everyday at 1B to learn a new postion for the future that's why. Call up Lee send down Salazar
Astros get: OF/1B Cody Bellinger SP Drew Smyly Cubs get: OF/IF Joey Loperfido RHP Spencer Arrighetti OF Corey Julks RHP Forrest Whitley Playoff roster: 2B Altuve LF/1B Bellinger 3B Bregman DH Alvarez C Diaz RF Tucker CF Meyers 1B/LF Abreu/Brantley SS Pena Bench: Maldonado, Dubon, McCormick, Lee Rotation: Valdez, Javier, Brown, Smyly Bullpen: France, Blanco, TBD, Stanek, Montero, Maton, Neris, Abreu, Pressly
Smyly is JAG. I can think of 30 pitchers as good or better that I would prefer. Bellinger fits and getting rid of Julks may be worth it by itself but I think Loperfido and Arrighetti are too rich. Whitley has no value so throwing him in just increases the prospects that would need to be included. They should just keep France in the rotation for free. He's as good or better than Smyly. A couple of guys closer to 40 man decisions like Kenedy Corona/Shay Whitcomb and Misael Tamarez/Jimmy Endersby for Bellinger would be the deal I prefer. I have an idea- they should DFA Julks so Dusty stops playing him. Any team could have chosen him in the rule 5 draft and didn't so clearly he has very very little trade value
Hard to value Stroman because he has an opt out after this season. That adds downside. I think something like the Bellinger/Smyly trade I proposed would be roughly fair.
If you did a Bellinger and Stroman Trade you still wouldn't be hand cuffed down to add more . Smyly is an OK add I'd aim for Stroman see what happens. You would have to figure out that Mutual option on Bellinger. Also you could go look at other Bats or Pitching considering that the cost of the Above shouldn't be that high. Whitley, Julks then try to piece togather a package after that if that's what your gonna lead out with. With Abreu hitting all the sudden. We really need to strike will the irons are hot. And really play it up so we don't over pay
