I did. I agree with him that it can set precedence going forward, but we are already well past that point anyway. This will either really help Trump or DeSantis - I am not sure, but one of them will be the next President.
This says a lot about your mindset that you consider prosecuting someone for committing crimes is “feeding the troll.”
feeding the troll? Democrats have constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY, fed the Trump-is-victim-industrial complex . . . going all the way back to 2016. They fed it during his Presidency, they fed it during not one but TWO impeachments, and they have fueled it ever since he left the Presidency. If they had ignored him he would have likely shriveled up and gone away. Instead they have fueled the MAGA storm troops' rage and this in turn will continue to fuel Trump's base of support for 2024. I was pretty sure the meaning was clear, but since you asked.
There is no direction or uniformity with Democrats. Half the Democrats don't want Trump indicted, they want to move on because they know Trump cannot win the election on 2024 without a drastic change in events - but there are assholes in NY and at the federal level doing everything they can do make DeSantis the nominee in 2024 or galvanize Republicans with Trump.
From a purely political standpoint - the decision to indict Donald Trump is foolish for the Democrats. Nothing positive politically will come out of this for the Democrat party. Trump will either look very bad and DeSantis will win the Republican nomination and the Presidential election or The case will be weak, Trump will look good, Republicans (including those that don't like him) will rally behind Trump and his election odds against Biden will improve.
Can you share your thoughts on a weak case? From what I've seen of the indictment it appears pretty clear cut that Trump conspired to break the law. As to his motivations, I think liberal fever dreams of jeopardizing US state secrets in exchange for money is too convoluted for Trump. He's a narcissistic child who probably wanted mementos from the four years everyone was forced to call him "sir"
lol "brushes" - Nixon is the only one that did something serious - and he resigned and was pardoned. Do you have any actual solid proof that Biden took a $5 million bribe - or just the word of an informant who was reporting hearsay? Also let's use some common sense - why would Burisma want to bribe Biden to fire a prosecutor who refused to investigate them and replace him with one who would investigate them?
It might not be the right thing politically but I'll be damned if it wasn't the proper decision to make. If he broke the law he needs to pay the price like any other citizen or else every single administration that comes after will think they also get a free pass.
I've never said I have proof of anything. I've merely supported the investigation, and I personally am very interested in finding out whether there's any there, there. I don't think Biden got rich by accident, so I suspect--key word, "suspect"--that there's something there, there.
(still haven't read the indictment...) Except it's not Democrats. The river flows, and Democrats could have intervened to stop it, but they didn't because that's just how they operate. They aren't as cold, calculated, or uniformed as the GOP. It would also be stupid for them to interfere with an independent investigation. If they did, they would lose their base. The 'Trump is a victim' card can only go so far. That card has been played to death, and outside of the MAGA (who were always motivated) and a few who might come back, I doubt it's anywhere near as effective as a rallying call. I count my parents as part of the non-MAGA group that was completely absorbed in the 'he's a victim' crowd. They are just tired of him and his constant complaining. I'm going to check in with them to see what they think, but I very much doubt they even care. Then there are the independents who are also very tired of the complaining and crimes. I don't think this is going to help him. He will probably get a slight boost from Republicans (which means DeSantis is even more dead in the water), but the broader electorate is very much tired of him. They don't want to see a criminal as POTUS. Overall, I think it's a null factor (which is an extremely sad state) to a slight negative factor for him. This assumes the trial will last past the election.
Oh my god. I don't think anyone has ever said that in the D&D before! I guess I would add (though it may be editorializing a bit) that Trump already tried to weaponize the DOJ and it was hard to do. He thought Sessions would go after his enemies, but Sessions had scruples. He replaced him with Barr, but Barr had self-preservation instincts. He fired Comey, but Rosenstein reacted with a special counsel. He appointed Wray to the FBI, and then decided Wray was a traitor for not carrying his water. Barr appointed Durham to go on a counteroffensive, but Durham was ****-blocked by juries. Weaponizing the DOJ turns out to be a lot harder than people make out.
So again…. You think Trump did nothing wrong? Or you think he did something but it’s in our best interest to just ignore it? Give me some rope here.
