Why does Trump obsess over the amount of votes he received in a losing election? It has nothing to do with these allegations. He he got outvoted and lost. now he’s been indicted as many times as he’s been impeached, with more indictments looming. every time someone says WeApOnIzING, a J6 rioter gets his wings…
English 101 would suggest that "I'm no Trump fan, but I am concerned about" is a statement about what that poster is concerned about, i.e., a factual or empirical statement about that poster's actual perceived beliefs. That expression of concern can ONLY be known by the poster him/herself. An expression of "concern" is not necessarily bullshit if IN FACT that poster is concerned. The only bullshit here appears to be your response. English 101.
Holding Trump accountable for his crimes = witch hunt! Trump using justice department to go after any critic to silence them = to the winners go the spoils!!!
I wince every time Banana Republic is invoked. One, it's just a permutation on the shithole country xenophobia stuff. Two, banana republics was an atrocity perpetrated by the US government and American corporations to continue the exploitation of raw materials and labor of developing nations. Its a dark chapter in our own history. Its ridiculous in a banality-of-evil sort of way to name a clothing store for it. Ridiculous lack of self-awareness to bandy it about in actual political discussion. Well, parliamentary immunity wouldn't apply here either since Trump holds no office at all, but I take your point. But it isn't the mechanism we use here. Here, we use a system of segregation of duties and oversight. You have segregation between the President, the confirming Senate, the AG, and the Special Counsel. You have segregation between the powers of the Federal government, the New York government, the DC government, and the Georgia government (assuming they all ultimately bring charges), and then within those between their governors, their legislatures, their AGs, and their Grand Juries. And you have oversight. You have Inspectors General who can investigate politically motivated investigations (remember how Trump was trying to kneecap those guys?). You have the House who can have investigations and hearings. You have state legislatures who can exercise oversight. And even if some of those bodies are controlled by partisans today, that control can flip with an election and a more responsible session can always look backward. You also have journalists who can make their careers by exposing corruption. And of course you have the courts themselves to examine the merits of the charges, with pathways to appeal all the way up to the Supreme Court. And with all of those safeguards against corruption in prosecution, you think it's still a real risk that we imprison someone over political fights? The appointment of John Durham was Trump's attempt to do the thing you're suggesting Biden is now doing. But, because of all the safeguards I just went through, he couldn't get anywhere on it. Even on the lowest hanging fruit, the prosecution of Michael Sussmann (the vehicle of the bs Alfa Bank lead), he couldn't get a conviction. Even while he was allowed his independence from a democratic DOJ, he couldn't convince 12 people that Sussmann had meaningfully lied to the FBI. That shows me the system of safeguards working. Durham was allowed to do his investigations because he's independent, but still has to bring proof beyond a reasonable doubt. It's possible the prosecution of Trump fails in court. That'd be okay. Though I don't think they'd bring such a high stakes case unless they thought it was an airtight, slam-dunk case. I can understand that feeling, but it is possible (and in fact the case) that Trump did more than one bad thing. I think proving culpability for J6 will be hard and maybe unattainable. Not being able to grab the headliner, though, doesn't mean Trump should not face consequences for his small- and medium-sized crimes. And should I take the implication that you think Al Capone was unfairly persecuted with the tax code?
I think this is a point the Democrats should stress, that the indictment was done completely independently from who is the President. Because the narrative that the justice system is getting weaponized by the Government is harmful to democracy, even if not true. And as of now, I am pretty sure that actually helps Trump secure the candidacy, instead of hurting him. Maybe that is the desired goal here (by the Democrats).
Biden already beat Trump. Trump as a candidate is best for Democrats because he is so toxic he sends people to the polls to vote against him
Trump strengthened punishments for mishandling classified data thinking he'd "lock her up". Karma is not only real but has a sense of humor.
