What is the best way Yainer Diaz Starts at Catcher. Release Maldonado, that is the only way Callup Korey Lee
Dana needs to save Dusty from Dusty... Trade Maldy for an ex-Astro popular with teammates such as McHugh or Yuli. Keep a lefty reliever off the roster unless he is ELITE, so Dusty doesn't play the gotta use a lefty card. IL Abreu for age.
The last time Brown spoke publicly, Dusty shut Diaz down for a month. I am not sure escalation is the best policy with Baker.
Maldy's laziness at framing and defense is even more glaring when watching Yainer play the position much better than him.
Yainer Diaz plays with Energy, Stays Positive. Can Block Pitches in the Dirt, Makes Accurate Throws. Offensively has good strike zone judgement, main problem is not playing games consistently.
Actually staying positive and pitch selection have been mentioned as issues preventing (or prevented) him from getting playing time.
how did maldy's ego become so big after 1 off-season? if the reports were true about him throwing a fit if the astros find another every day catcher, that's just terrible man........ you're mid-30s approaching late-30s. your bat was never good, it's practically having a pitcher bat. your job at this stage of your career should be helping your replacement. drop your ego, drop your pride. age and time won't stop for anyone.
The attitude issues were reported when he was in the minors. As far as I know we haven't heard anything since he's been called up. Pitch selection he's getting slightly better at. Heard on the broadcast yesterday he's spending hours looking over his at-bats and batting practice in an effort to swing at better pitches and improve his plate discipline.
The most irritating thing about Maldy this season is his glaring inability to block pitches in the dirt
i think it's a bit ridiculous to expect a major league athlete to say just say "welp, i'm terrible. Stop playing me skip". If this is his last season (cuz he voluntarily wants to retire or no one signs him), I don't think it's at all unreasonable to want to play every day. Now if his performance is so bad it merits benching, that's on the manager. And Dusty would have to deal with the consequences cuz Maldy is beloved in the clubhouse. Baseball is rife with players who played too long but wouldn't give it up. Most sports are.
