I don't disagree with you here.

At the end of the day, it's a zero-tolerance policy, so while you and I may disagree how the punishment was handed, the company is justified in how it handled this. Ultimately they are concerned about worker and public safety. Thankfully this particular case, nothing happened, however, if they appear to be lenient on something, more workers may be willing to engage in the future knowing that they may not be reprimanded. The company pretty much showed that they are serious about adhering to this policy.

Physically engaging may be interpreted differently, but I would say the fact that they engaged them is an issue. What if thieves would of pulled out weapons and started shooting because they were upset that someone said something to them?

    Not true.

It absolutely is...it's a corporate decision...also influenced by insurance companies.

Wait till they hear about the woke communist policies of banks for employees during a robbery. My grandfather literally robbed a bank with an unloaded gun.

    serious questions:

why do you tag the guys you know are going to agree with you every time in your posts? and how is this video anecdote I'm not going to watch remotely responsive to what I posted?

It's their company policy, but it's a disaster masterclass of PR as we're observing. We haven't even seen the full consequences as Lululemon will probably experience more shoplifting soon.
Most of these seasoned thieves won't escalate to violence unless they're physically confronted as it brings on much heavier robbery charges. I don't see the employees doing anything wrong by videotaping and verbally saying "get out". They were probably frustrated from so many previous shoplifting experiences recently (five to six times in the past 8 mo according to the original article.

The fired employees say it was.
So it comes down to who do you want to believe without further supporting evidence. The employees that were fired or the company trying to do PR damage control.

    From article:

My guess is that since they recorded the incident, this likely what led to their firing. Once again, it is some sort of engagement, so it is a violation of the policy. I have a hard time believing a company would have "do not call 911" as a company policy.

Probably do. Its not an emergency, and calling 911 would rile the shoplifters up.

I hope the company policy is eventually leaked so we can all see for ourselves rather than speculating.

I actually think it's the following them and filming that got them fired. Normal people don't even like getting a camera shoved in their face, people who are actively committing a crime might not act so nicely to being filmed.

either way I don't know why the employees were fired, seems harsh imo, but Lululemon has to protect their money. One dead employee is a multi million dollar lawsuit. Their insurance company probably told them if they have employees trying to stop crime, their policy probably gets cancelled next term

there's literally no way any contract/policy would ban employees from calling 911, that would be insane in terms of liability

Pretty much feels like the state of things.

This has been the policy for literal decades at nearly every major retailer in the country.

I guess tinman has never worked retail before.
