So if Trump were to somehow end up in jail, he could still run for President. But how does it work if he's elected? Obviously if he's in federal prison, he can just pardon himself. But if he's in state prison, does he get released? Does the VP have to take office?

State prisoners usually only get a limited number of visitors and phone calls per month. I would be surprised if holding a full time job is even allowed.

Even if Trump is convicted and put under house arrest, his freedoms will be tightly controlled by the court. He likely will not be able to leave the state if not his house, post to social media, hold press conferences on the lawn (of his house), play multiple rounds of golf per week, etc. As an aside, there is zero chance Trump would abide by his house arrest rules and would likely get sent back to jail.

I think that you are correct that since the President will be "incapacitated" the 25th amendment kicks in and the VP takes over "temporarily".

Realistically, if he were elected while in prison there would be a lot of pressure to release him. Which is probably justifiable. If voters want him as president even though they know it was proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed a crime, then that's what they should get. Sure, its ridiculous to put someone like Trump back in the Oval Office in this scenario, but what if you have a Nelson Mandela type who has been unjustly imprisoned by a corrupt government -- you'd not want some state jail stand in the way of the will of the people. If I was the state governor, I'd probably be inclined to commute his sentence despite all the damage it would do to the country to let him be president.

If he's in state jail, it would likely be in NY or GA. GA, certainly, he'd be released. But NY? The governor would be under immense pressure from his or her own state to not release him. Hopefully we never have to find out.

We are in some murky water for sure, I am just curious if trump sees the walls closing in would he take a deal to stay out of jail? He typically is all macho about these things and will keep shouting his innocence from the rooftop but when and if this becomes "real", will he break down and give up and try and come to some sort of plea deal to save his a$$ from going to jail. trump in jail makes him a martyr but I cant see trump in jail, he would not last a week..............to be fair, neither would I :D

Agreed, I don't want to find out. We'd probably have a J6 at a New York prison if they kept a president in there.

Trump boasts he never settles but he settles all the time. He'd take a deal.

Some people are wondering aloud that maybe Deep State releases Deep Fake of him blasting Putin, and Putin fixes the problem.

I just saw an article about this..............if Meadows is HONEST (which is a stretch) this could be the last straw before indictment. The article I read said possibly as early as tomorrow but I think that's a guess at best. If Meadows is honest and spills the beans, his political career would be over and maga twits would be looking for him

... whoever's passing themselves off as lawyers representing the Donald were visiting with Jack Smith and the prosecution to see if just such a deal could be made not too long ago...

...ergo the Donald's latest online temper tantrum about "unfairness" and "witch-hunts" and the like...

...maybe for once in his miserable life, the Donald is going to learn the difference between a deal and a bargain...

    ...a plea bargain, that is...;)

Even though Trump said he’s never settled a lot suit he’s settled a lot. It wouldn’t surprise me if in the meeting with DOJ a few days ago Trump’s lawyers were looking for some sort of deal.

Even if Trump is found guilty I doubt he spends actual jail time I think the prospect of actually locking up a former President would be too much for any judge or jury. Most likely he gets probation and fines.

His brain is so damaged by all of the sun tan product, makeup, and hair plugs that he doesn't remember that these investigations have been going on far longer than when he declared to run again.

This is what I dont get, so even if special counsel did threaten him with serious charges, which I am sure they did, are they trying to say that then Meadows would lie to the grand jury to save himself? That makes no sense, if Meadows was innocent, he would reject the deal. I am not sure what newsmax lady is saying
