Cardinals putting up a fight, but Rangers lead by 2

The good news is Dunning's ERA took a 45-point hit

Let the regression continue. Lucky offense next

    No he shouldn't.

    But he will.

The sad part is if we don't win the World Series last year, we don't sign Montero.

Winning the World Series unfortunately makes any front office dumb all of a sudden. Or let's just say nostalgic. Nostalgia is a b****.

The Texas Rangers are the best team in baseball and there might even be somewhat of a gap between them and the Rays at this point.

What problems they did have with the bullpen seems to have mostly subsided.

The lineup is littered with .300+ or near .300 hitters. The only one in the lineup that isn't is on pace for 140+ RBIs.

Without Degrom, their margin of error is narrowed in that starting rotation. I expect them to make a move on that front at the trade deadline along with a couple of quality relief pitchers.

Starters will need to start wobbling (Dunning, Eovaldi, Gray) and the bullpen will need to go back to imploding for us to have a shot at the division.

Rangers are the luckiest team in baseball.

They might be the best team but no way there's somewhat of a gap between them vs a team 3 games ahead while playing in a much better division. If the Rangers continue their current production, they will be the biggest statistical anomaly in the history of sports. Half their starting players having by far the best season of their careers all in the same year. They are voodoo insane thru 60 games. Major team-wide regression is the most likely outcome.

St Maldy's fragile ego must be protected.

Pressly bailed out Montero twice - ALCS Game 1 and World Series Game 5. Both times he entered the game in the 8th and inherited Montero's runners. Yes, Montero was probably a bit overused, but late in the regular season, he began to show signs of slowing down. I get wanting to bring the entire bullpen back, but he relief pitching is always very volatile, and Montero didn't really have a long track record prior to 2022. Plus, we had a lot of good arms coming back. That's why I didn't really like the deal at that time.

This is a legit question… how TF did this guy get a 3yr/$34m deal??? Like… wtf. The most un-Astros move ever. And Crane just went w it.

    My problem was $11.5 million.

I was at about 5-6 million, but that was it.

Just a ridiculously sentimental move not based on reality.

I don't know many here that with purely the eye test thought Montero was going to be dominant for the next 3 years (let's be honest, that's what he has to be to earn that high price tag we signed him for).

I predicted an era between 3.40 and 3.80, so even I didn't see this level of meltdown coming. I just thought he would turn into Maton.

Apparently off day for Bregman and Pena tomorrow. Kessinger at 3b, Dubon at SS, and Altuve back at 2b

i was off by one player. Hunter brown was not perfect but he did enough to not get the L. astros offense is just something else man.

both rays and rangers are the best teams in baseball. Orioles are 3rd but the Astros are not in that conversation right now. Astros will be in a good position because I would prefer them become the hot team no one wants to face in the postseason as opposed to the favorites.

The regular season means less and less as playoffs expand.

Strictly from trends, there will soon be a 32 team playoff with advertisers choosing the matchups. A regular season just increases the chances of injury and we can't have that. Every match will be shown on a different network requiring a prepaid annual subscription running $200-$500/year before SURCHARGES.

The rangers can not keep this up and will regress some.
Just look at the Yankees last year.
I can't believe there are so many people conceding the division with 100 games left lol.

I'm getting a huge laugh out of people dismissing the Rangers. They own the AL West and everyone is like but but but we have 100 games to go bro!!!

    LMAO.

And more importantly, the Astros should literally just forfeit the next game after scoring 10 runs or more. There's zero point in playing it the next day.
