Exactly. I've been following this team religiously since 1977. I got my picture taken with Bob Watson when I was 8 years old and it's still sitting on my desk right now I cried when we lost Game 5 to the phillies in 1980. Still remember Jose Cruz sitting alone in the dugout after the game was over. Broke my heart I skipped school to listen to Mike Scott's no-hitter on the radio in 86 I cried like a little b**** for 15 minutes after the final out of the 2017 WS. I had been waiting for that exact moment for 40 years and was becoming convinced that I would never see it I don't post a lot here because I'm not as big of a stat nerd as a lot of people here because I think it takes away from the enjoyment of the game. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!
I'll think the rangers are a true threat if they keep this up past the break. They're playing out of their fcking mind right now with multiple players having career years, with one of the easiest schedule so far...and yet they are only 3.5 ahead of the Astros. It's a long season. Yeah, I don't really care for them.
Back to the actual series... I always get a little nervous after blowout wins. Last time we blew out a team that wasn't the A's, we didn't score another run for the next 2 games...
People will whine about the "10 run curse" but we are facing an extremely good pitcher tonight, and they managed to avoid using their high leverage arms yesterday. A low scoring affair should probably be expected. Hunter Brown has got his work cut out for him in this matchup.
I have maintained all year long they are a 90 or 92 win team. Maybe they overperform. But yeah, being worried about it now is silly. don’t look under the hood too terribly closely on the Bielak/France/Blanco trio. Very happy for what they’ve accomplished though. Urquidy and Lance need to get healthy and Arreghetti needs to be good, probably, at some point in time.
Urquiddy will be back. Lance unlikely (but will probably continue to rest into next year and try to make a go of it without surgery). And they should trade for a starter once it becomes evident who the sellers are.
There’s also the Astros against good pitchers vs trash pitchers curse. We smoke these awesome pitchers and routinely get punked by 5-6 ERA scrubs. Something’s gotta give tonight.
It's pretty obv the Bielak/France/Blanco trio aren't all-star contenders, but they're keeping the team in games and that's about all you can ask for the 7-8-9 guys in the rotation. The peripherals are pretty terrible but they've managed to give bulk innings and not be outright terrible. That's a huge win.
Similar here. My Little League team won championship and got trip to the astrodome and a game in 1966. Fan ever since. Lost old login a while back and even then rarely posted. But read forum every day and watch almost every game. Even did a family road trip in RV following Astros around six different cities in 05 or 06.
Pretty much me. I think 77 or 78 was my first Astro game as a kid at the AD, yep I don't get to caught up in stats. (shakes fist at clouds)
pena gonna homer but only a solo. no other run production from anyone else. Hunter brown needs to be perfect.
Agreed completely. You see reality as it is. Some people are mesmerized by the sub 3.5 eras. If you can get 5 innings and 3 or 4 runs out of those guys they’ve done their job and if the offense gets in gear with this bullpen you can maybe win half your games.
