He's got pop, and he's got some good bat-to-ball skills (the outside pitch he took down the 1B line today, for example). From what I've seen out of a very young catcher, he has all the abilities to stay at that position, and we should all hope that he can and wants to.
They've kept it up since you brought this up about 10 starts ago. The point is that "they are doing it right now" That's all that matters.
Very impressive last 2 starts by Yainer vs the Twins, he caught Blanco in his 1st career MLB start for only 2 ER and also hit an RBI vs the Blue Jays, he caught Bielak for only 3 ER and also had 4 hits These guys are supposed to be our worse starters. Remember we also started off the season 6-0 with him catching and he caught a lower ERA than Maldy
People move goalposts all the time just to avoid admitting they were wrong. The thing is Urquidy and Garcia are middling starting pitchers. Let's not make them into something they are not. I'm not sure we have any difference in France/Bielak/Blanco at this point. Now I will admit the playoff experience is very valuable and cannot be dismissed.
The number of elite pitchers struggling this year is quite amazing. Manoah and Cease leading the brigade. But you also have Nola, Burnes, and a few others.
