They are trying to keep everybody available by spreading instead of completely burning arms for multiple days.
Maybe from that standpoint they are quite good. I'm just talking about keeping my interest in games and making great calls. That part I feel I get short changed.
The line ended up being 6 2/3 3ER instead of 6IP 2ER…. If Abreu hit a home run every time he was up to bat he’d be the best hitter ever. Bielak won’t touch the mound during playoffs this is exactly what he’s here to do.
"Jose Abreu singles on a ground ball to shortstop". Lol That's gonna be on his gravestone, courtesy of the Houston Astros.
The bigger issue is that Dusty risked letting this game get competitive throwing a toast pitcher when it didn't need to be. Martinez was completely fresh, and is the bullpen equivalent of Bielak, just there to eat innings.
At this point Bielak will remain in the rotation probably through the entire season. I wouldn't count on McCullers throwing a single pitch this season and Urquidy being out on the 60 day IL does not makes me feel good about his prospects of helping out the 2023 Astros at all. Now Martinez, I couldn't give 2 flips about if he had come in and pitched 3 full innings and given up 5 runs. There is your throwaway pitcher you're alluding to.
Ridiculous? First, your corner outfielder shouldn’t hit 7th - so if the Astros had another solid corner outfielder, he would be hitting higher in the order. Second, counting numbers are largely dependent on the people around you in the line up. Third a .278 OBP is turrible - it’s about the same and Jose Abreu. 16 walks over 150 games is ridiculous. When (or if) Julks gets his OBP up to 340, we can talk about rolling the rest of the season with him in the starting line up. His OPS+ is only 83
