Right! We went from mocking those fans who viewed the 3 point shot as most important because it vilified Sengun to actually understanding why it is important for every team. Then to insinuate that Senun = Jokic and to expect the same timeline JUST BECAUSE! Jokic had been to a WCF before though so your flair for drama is a little lost on me at least. What a time to be alive! At least you guys could always flip the switch and go make fun of KPJ for a few hours - that might get your spirits up!
Nobody wanted to leave that GSW team open that would have been a death sentence - the rest of the league bought into defending it the only way possible via 'switch everything' and then the Aholes go sign Kevin Durant. Damned if you do damned if you dont during the GS dynasty years. Will you still call it luck and variance if MIA rides the wave to a ring?
Of course, what else would i call it? I don’t believe this is actually the greatest shooting team the sport has seen. You see this occasionally in baseball or hockey, or even football (flacco, nick foles) where a mediocre team/player gets lucky for a stretch and wins. This would be a first in the nba but it was going to happen eventually
Were the 95 Rockets lucky? Coming with your best effort for an extended stretch is a skill that championship teams have.
Exactly, but how you shoot has a range depending on your shooters, coaching schemes etc. Right now Miami is shooting at the top of their range probably.
nba.com team stats only go back to 96-97 so i can't look at the data, did that rockets team shoot way above their heads in that postseason? Weird example, not sure what effort or anything has to do with shooting luck
That Rockets team was a #6 seed that got hot and played better than their regular season record in the playoffs. I take exception to you calling it luck, I don't think any team has lucked their way to the finals or possible championship.
Well if it's not luck, how do you explain miami shooting 45% or better in all these playoff games from 3? Why are they able to shoot better then the curry warriors? The Rockets have nothing to do with this, just so random/irrelevant
Against boston, miami was getting about 6 ppg extra due to their shooting luck. If you had 6 pts to the rockets, it puts them around a -2 rating, which is in the 35ish win range.
They are locked in and playing their best when it counts. You might notice a lot of teams with Pat Riley's influence have this quality.
yeah but that would entail an entire seasons worth of 'variance' vs 3 playoff series. Houston should just find a bunch of good shooters and hope to get hot at the right time assuming they can even reach the playoffs to begin with.
you'll have to show your work to show me where riley teams shoot this much above their ability level, otherwise it's just made up gibberish (which it is)
Don't know, but I recently read an insane stat that said Pat Riley teams were part of 25 % of all NBA finals...ever. Incredible.
Essentially this miami run is the ultimate vindication for morey. They have taken a mediocre team and with 99th percentile shooting luck are in the finals, and are a few lucky shooting games from being champs.
Ya he's great, he also had prime Magic, Kareem, wade, lebron, shaq, etc. Even this miami underdog team has multiple all nba guys which very few teams can say (denver for example can't). He's never won a ring without a top 10 all time player, though that can be said for almost everyone ever.

You've given no reason to explain it. The options are: 1. They purposely have shot at a certain level because they wanted to fake people into thinking they're not good, just to "try" in these specific playoffs. 2. Luck 3. Divine intervention
