I didn't say any of that, but apache, maj and you have been saying jokic can't win in the playoffs, because he is too slow etc. I don't know what you mean. Of course he needed a good team to win, how is that something bad, surprising, unknown or against him. There is no equivalence but there is comparison. Analysts, players are making that too because you try to get insight on players by comparing them to past players. And it is a very unique situation because both players have unconventional games for today's game and one of them is mvp.
So in a sense you are having your cake and eating it too! On the one hand you say that its not fair to say Jokic has not been an impactful player in the playoffs because of X,Y,Z and on the other you want to take a victory lap when the necessary team was built around him to validate his archetype. Alrighty then!
Okay, I admit. Jokic needed other good players to be successful and particularly ones that are a good match with his weakness and strengths. And when the other players are injured or had bad seasons, he failed to make it to the finals. I would never think about getting a player like that to my team.
And somehow you guys needed to accuse others of not being able to read a 27/12/7 playoff stat line like it doesnt speak for itself! Before you go whatabouting straight to the Finals why not just focus on why he was swept by PHX and toyed with by GS. MIA was beat up heading into the playoffs and look at them now. DEN ran through everyone and yet MIA has already flipped the home court. What will be the excuse if MIA wins this thing? Luck? I dont expect that to happen just for the record. I think DEN wins in 7. Im hoping Alperen Sengun comes back next year and is more impactful from the high post vs in the block and can keep his defender at home. If Jokic could do it then so can Sengun right?
Other then luck, what explanation would you give for miami's playoff 3 point shooting against the bucks, celts, and nuggets? Some sort of devine intervention?
Dude, your arguments are so circular. I don't want to go in a circle with you anymore. Nobody can win with a low post player unless you have Hakeem. Nobody can win with a slow play making big man unless you have Jokic. Nobody can win with jump shooting guard unless you have Curry. Nobody can win with a bullying run and dunk guy unless you have Giannis. Nobody can win with ... unless you have ... Let me simplify it for you and save you a lot of going round and round. Nobody can win unless you have a great player.
He was not swept, Denver was swept. It is quite standard in the nba for stronger teams to beat the weaker teams. Denver guards in the GS series are Will Barton and Monte Morris. And they got toyed with the eventual champions? What a shame!! Switch them with two decent(not great by any means) guards Murray and porter, Denver is in the finals. Denver played Campazzo against phoenix. It is no wonder they did not win. Nothing will be the excuse because an excuse will not be necessary. Denver is the heavy favorites and could lose as well. Miami is a good team with an excellent coach and that has built a culture to put their best on the court and has beaten a number of very solid teams. You make up these standards like if Jokic loses in the finals, there should be a problem with him. Nobody else buys into that. I am hoping that too. I am hoping and projecting a big leap this year for Sengun under Udoka.
Sure, sure -- enjoy your sensibility NOW. Talking about 'eventual champions' and continuing along with the excuse machine it is such a shame that the 2018 Rockets were not assembled just a few years later. They would mop the floor with the current Denver or Miami team.
That they intentionally filled their roster with guys who can hit the 3 point shot? Granted it was with varying degrees of success percentage wise, but the team did have 7 guys who put up 4.5 or more 3PA per game. They got hot at the perfect time. They have an absolute dog in Himmy Butler. Im waiting for a transcendent game from him in this series soon and if MIA does win the championship my annoying 3&D fanaticism will only get more loud and piss more people off.
You claim that this is the blueprint for the nba now, and all the teams do that. And you ask how we can explain miami is in the finals . And the only team that doesn't do it is the favorite in the finals. And if that team loses in the finals, you think it proves your point that the other method doesn't work
But they don't have an elite 3 point shooting team. They are literally shooting BETTER then the kd/klay/steph warriors. Ya they happened to get hot (aka they're just insanely lucky) but at least acknowledge that it's nothing but luck, it's not anything that miami did
That is one delicious word salad amigo! Let me make it simple. BOTH Denver and MIA are 3&D teams although at different frequencies. Denver maximized those shots commensurate to their attempts. They were one of the highest make teams at that range while being in the bottom 3rd in terms of attempts mainly due to the slower pace giving Jokic the reigns results in. Miami shot the 3 at high volume all year although less efficiently and was also a slower paced team. Both staffs have the right guys for the philosophy. Both depend on the shot to varying degrees. DEN has two legitimate star level players who can alternate responsibility. MIA has Himmy Butler and a bunch of undrafted guys. Im more impressed with Miami's run, but can still remain in the moment - I acknowledge Denver is a very good team and I expect them to win not because of Jokic' individual greatness, but because they took advantage of the 3 point shot. Same will be said about Miami if they win, but even to a more extreme level. What is the alternative? Dunk and baby hook your way to a title?
You're right. All Im saying is that Miami is taking the 3>2 to an extreme level and they did it at the perfect time. Its like I was telling @ApacheWarrior before game 1 that I wouldnt be surprised to see MIA regress to the mean and it seemed to happen game 1, but then MIA comes out hitting 17 out of 35 in game 2!! If DEN is going to allow all those open looks and MIA takes advantage of it then like Apache said it might already be a wrap, but I think DEN is a much better perimeter defending team then they showed in both of these games.
the "open looks" and all that is utter nonsense. Nobody shoots this well, they are shooting better in some of these series then if curry was taking all those shots. 17/35 is just luck, nothing else
Nah the Heat are staffed with guys not afraid to take that shot and a fair amount of higher volume 3pt shooters there who are 33%+ ... you cant leave those kinds of guys open - many times WIDE OPEN. Almost like the Nugs are begging them to shoot and havent watched them go scorched earth on the Eastern conference these playoffs. Im pretty sure Malone isnt saying "ok guys lets just leave their shooters open and hope they miss it" -- MPJ in particular has been REAL bad on defense.
What a journey: 'The team plays better with Bruno Fernando, we need a rim protector lob threat' and Sengun outplays Bruno instantly 'Jokic cannot win in playoffs, post-up is dead etc' and Jokic wins in the playoffs 'He is actually playing what I was suggesting' So suddenly when Denver wins, Jokic is part of your 3&D. When he was losing he was the slow unathletic big who was played off the court lol. It is good to be never wrong though. I wish I had that.
sure, but that goes for every team in every series in every season. Why is there open shooting so much better then the warriors dynasty? are those guys just THAT much better then steph and klay and KD? A 33% shooter who all of a sudden shoots 50% is just variance/luck, nothing more
