    I've seen this a lot.

If aliens have visited us from across vast distances of space, then they have the ability to visit billions of other planets that have all the resources they want. There is absolutely no need battle the human race for our planet's resources when they could easily visit an uninhabited planet and get all the resources they need.

If they're here, they're here for US. Probably to learn from us (research how our primitive species behaves). If they'd have intended to conquer us, they would have done so long ago.

They're probably a bunch of alien college students.

More to the point, like we are some stupid insects that discovered nuclear power, which would be a potential concern.

We still have to get the nukes somewhere they will be a threat, right?

Nuclear power has been around for billions of years (every star), we just discovered how to make it happen. Who knows, aliens may be at such a technological level that fission/fusion is like smashing rocks together and 'discovering' fire.

I don’t disagree with any of this, but I imagine there’s a chance nuclear power, even infant level knowledge like we have, is a potential gateway to unlocking far more advanced technology. I don’t think anyone is arguing that our current level of tech is something that would threaten an intergalactic population.

If the government did come clean, would people in general be willing to accept answers that challenge their existing beliefs and narratives? Confirmation bias and the tendency to seek information that confirms preexisting beliefs can be powerful influences on how individuals process and accept new information. It often requires an open-minded and critical mindset to consider alternative explanations and reassess one's beliefs in light of new evidence.

There was a time I would agree..not any longer. I think most people believe that there’s a high likelihood of life somewhere else in the universe, even if it’s never visited here or incapable of doing so.

Think of all the money (you) could make as a doomsday preacher the minute we know there's extraterrestrial life.
