I'm not as optimistic about next year, so I don't *really* care if the spacing sucks. And I'm sure it will, unless the team nails shooting in free agency (gets a couple of shooters like Cam Johnson, Brook Lopez, Bruce Brown/Seth Curry/Joe Ingles types, etc). I do think JG, Sengun, Jabari, etc., need to show improvement (and I'm fairly optimistic they'll do so), but *good* spacing with the young core might need another year or so. If they get Amen, they'll have to get clever, but if properly utilized, the spacing issue won't be my chief concern with the team (especially if he actually takes open 3s, even if he's ~25%).

Someone like Brandon Miller could *really* help with spacing, assuming he doesn't pull a Jabari. Even if it isn't my primary concerns, it would be nice if shooting was actually a strength of the team sooner than I expected.

Ime already said one thing he noticed was they weren't bad shooters but bad shot takers. Basically weren't being put in positions to succeed which is shocking considering the last coach said "yeah we're not putting Jabari in a position to succeed".

Jabari was taking and missing wide open C&S threes in fact he had something like 88% assisted field goals on his 3s. What Silas meant was they're not calling any plays for Jabari just telling him to stay on 3 pt line and shoot the open shot and he couldn't even do that consistently. Maybe Silas was wrong expecting the dude we drafted for shooting to actually be a good shooter but why are you blaming Silas for that? Lol.

I know it's fun to dump on Silas after last season and all his sound bites but as a coach all you can do for a player is get him open. It's up to that player to convert the open shot. Silas can't take the ball from Jabari and score with it it's up to Jabari to convert the shot since he is open already.

Watched the NBA more than 10 years? I’ve played pickup with guys who have been on NBA teams with some of the guys you mentioned. I’ve been watching since Hakeem was Akeem. You’re taking to an old head here….your the guy who thinks height has anything to do with effectiveness when everyone knows wingspan is a much better measure of functional length on a basketball court. Scoot has a 6’9” wingspan by the way which is much closer to that of your average SF. Again, you continue to prove you don’t actually know what you are talking about.

Yeah - like I said - that would be a nice player…I just think the odds are much higher that one of Amen’s defense or more likely his shooting are likely not going to pan out. I mean - he will likely be the highest upside at the 4th pick - but I just think the odds of him getting there are so low that you mind as well try to trade up even one pick to get a chance at a far safer pick. I would be willing to mortgage some future Brooklyn 1st round picks to make it happen too because Brooklyn has young talent and a zillion picks to try to swing a trade - that team isn’t going to bottom out so trade the picks and try to get a piece that makes better sense for this roster than Amen who even if he does pan out, likely is still going to take several years to do it.

Lots of 6'3 and below PGs have 6'9 wingspan including our very own Tyty Washington. Doesn't mean he doesn't need to jump high and land hard on his knees if he wants to dunk the ball. When's the last time Tyty played SF? He's close to the average SF according to you he must have played SF at least one time right? Wtf.

So you're an old head and know DRose, John Wall and Steve Francis? What makes you think Scoot gonna be different from them? Instead of keep talking nonsensical BS why don't you use your "old head" to tell me why Scoot will have a long and healthy career when GLeague is out there sitting him out to prevent injury?

Highly doubt Amen is gonna come in and be a Rondo. Dude is raw AF prob has no NBA standard skillset right now besides athleticism and passing.

Don't need him to contribute right away if at all. This team is going to solve its issues via free agency and trades. No one they draft this year is going to be a factor in a deep playoff run for a few years anyway.

But Amen Thompson has the highest ceiling in this draft behind Wemby. You absolutely draft that if it's there.

false. the fact that he isn't even included in whats been continously regarded as the big 3 on the top of draft already of wemby/miller/scoot discredits some fake highest ceiling claim, of the 4th pick syndrome some of you guys blindly trying to push some false narrative about Amen. someone with a disgusting shot like his is no where near the highest ceiling behind Wemby

He won't be Rondo right away, but if he manages to be good enough to stay on the court, I think that would be a fairly realistic middle ground outcome for his peak years. By which I mean, that would be better than his worst case outcome, but worse than his best case outcome, if you catch my drift.

"ceiling" is a useless concept because in practice, before the fact it just means "I think this guy can run fast and jump high vs. some other guy."

I want to push back on this one a bit. Ceiling isn't just about physical tools, it also includes other things, such as feel for the game, court vision, basketball IQ, toughness, intangibles. Basically it's describing a prospect having innate qualities that are difficult or impossible to teach, but having a gap between their current skills (which can be taught) and their maximum possible skills/physical development (as they mature and get more reps).

Making blanket statements like "ceiling is a useless concept" flies in the face of all prospect/draft analysis. I think you'd have a hard time finding any scout, analyst, GM, etc who agrees with that statement... in any sport, not just basketball.

I remember Kuminga having the “might have the highest ceiling in the draft” talk at one point

it is often given to a prospect who looks to be a supreme athlete as if that’s the most important thing in the NBA

I know, because they rely on nebulous concepts like ceiling to get paid.

It doesn't have any actual rigor to it so I think it's bullshit. You can use it however you wish. I have.

Well, that's a pretty cynical view, but I guess not surprising :p

being a "super athlete" isn't that important in the NBA. the league is littered with guys who are athletic. and every year they get shifted in and out. Actual relevant Skills and IQ are what sets guys apart. i remember CF's trying to boast and push about well westbrick can run fast and get by his man. hes going to be awesome. how that turned out so well.

How do you know that was wrong? Kuminga has only been in the league 2 years. And even if it he doesn't ever break out, it still isn't wrong, because the whole point of "ceiling" is that the player isn't there yet, but has the potential to get there. Obviously only some guys will actually pull it off.

You should read some of the sh*t Bulls fans were saying about Lauri Markkanen in 2021, lol.

Being a super athlete isn't important at all. Once a player reaches a baseline of "athletic enough" it's all about skills and IQ. No one ever accused Larry Bird, Steve Nash, Luka, or Jokic of being explosive. Even role players can get by and have good careers without it. JJ Redick dropped a career high 18ppg at the age of 34 in the modern era. I think because legendary players like MJ, Kobe, and Lebron were athletic freaks people assume their advantage was mostly their physical gifts, when it was really their talent level that allowed their athleticism to shine.

He's the most athletic, that's the only thing we know. Nobody really knows the ceiling of players till they play in the NBA. Did you know Jokic had a higher ceiling than Blake Griffin? Luka had a higher ceiling than John Wall? If people knew the ceiling of players Baby Melo Morris wouldnt have gone over Kawhi Leonard.

Amen been working on his shot for 2 yrs and he is still a broke shot with bad D. If the shot doesn't pan out long term hard to see his ceiling as anything but a role player.
