@LosPollosHermanos do you agree with this? Or do you see validity in Twitter prifpes that have the words "MD" in them as more reliable entities for intellectual curiosity on this matter? Who do you think has the most sincere intellectual curiosity on this matter in that they don't use the topic as a culture wars crutch to start a online presence that can garner clout and wealth?
Big bad intrusive government. While there are valid arguments about GAC for children, these GOP politicians are simply anti-human that are transgender. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/06/02/texas-gender-affirming-care-ban/ Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law Friday a bill that bars transgender kids from getting puberty blockers and hormone therapies Texas — home to one of the largest trans communities in the U.S. — is now one of 18 states that restrict transition-related care for trans minors. Authored by New Braunfels Republican state Sen. Donna Campbell, the law bars trans kids from getting puberty blockers and hormone therapies, treatments many medical groups support. Children already receiving these treatments will have to be “weaned off” in a “medically appropriate” manner. The law also bans transition-related surgeries for kids, though those are rarely performed on minors. Transgender adults in Florida `blindsided’ that new law also limits their access to health care a new law that Republican presidential candidate and Gov. Ron DeSantis signed last month also made it difficult – even impossible – for many transgender adults to get treatment. The new law that bans gender-affirming care for minors also mandates that adult patients seeking trans health care sign an informed consent form. It also requires a physician to oversee any health care related to transitioning, and for people to see that doctor in person. Those rules have proven particularly onerous because many people received care from nurse practitioners and used telehealth. The law also made it a crime to violate the new requirements. Another new law that allows doctors and pharmacists to refuse to treat transgender people further limits their options.
So this is the modern conservative movement, the party of Freedom and limited government, just criminalize things. Don’t try to understand. Don’t work with things like medical ethics boards. Just criminalize things.
Basically they know better than the medical community and they should be the ones making medical decisions for other people. Their motto is, "your body, my choice"
They also know better than the educational esperts, scientists, and anyone that relies on research and anything that just doesn't "feel right" according to their own personal biases.
parental rights no ability to consent to something this irreversible as a child, hence your "my body my choice" argument dumbassery at the highest level where was your "my body my choice" when you tried to force vaccine mandates for vaccines with side effects which provided no sterile immunity?
The stance most pro vaccine folks had for vaccine mandates were if the company requires it if you didn't like it, quit and find a place that doesn't require it. Schools always has vaccine mandates, if u didn't like it, u either home school or get a doctors note to get excuse from it. If u were for the my body my choice especially if it protects parental rights during vaccination time, u should not b all of a sudden against parents that use that same defense for gender transition surgery simply b/c u disagree with it. U don't see most people on here calling folks that deny kids vaccination evil or criminals since they are doing what they think is best for their kid. Typical conservatives my body my choice defense usage only with stuff they dont agree with, but abortion and gender transition? ya fk the my body and my choice defense General parent arent going to subject their kid to gender transition surgery without doing their due diligence/research. restricting it until 18 is denying parental rights. U Get but hurt that the government is ignoring parental rights when it comes to vaccination, but when u agree with it, parent rights goes out the window and u are fine with restricting gender transition surgery.
It's a movement toward the extreme right by today's Republican party. We should not call members of the party conservative, as clearly the group has abandoned conservative principles. They are absolutely not proponents of freedom, limited government, or parental rights. They are also not supporters of free enterprise or free speech. What they advocate for are MY rights, MY speech, and MY values, while denying others their rights, their speech, and their value.
Also the vaccine mandates not only had several exceptions they weren’t enforced with criminal codes. If you didn’t want to get vaccinated you weren’t going to be jailed.
Yeah I don't remember many government COVID vaccine mandates, if any, that stretched beyond the normal vaccine umbrella that had already been in effect most places for decades for places like schools and hospitals, etc.
Yes there was no blanket vaccine mandate. The federal vaccine mandate only applied to federal employees. Most mandates were by states or other local governance and/or private employers. There was no requirement that everyone get vaccinated and certainly no requirement that People who didn’t get vaccinated would be arrested.
Just saw Nikki Haley’s interview on CBS and she again brought up the argument about trans in female sports. She didn’t provide nor get a follow up question about how large of a problem this is. She did stay that trans are a very small minority.
Up until late 2021, the COVID vaccination mandate was primarily implemented by the private sector. The federal OSHA mandate, which came into effect late in 2021, was the most controversial one. It required individuals to either be vaccinated or wear masks and undergo weekly tests. The Court struck down this mandate in early 2022. All of the federal mandates have now been lifted following the conclusion of the public health emergency last month. These mandates were always intended to be temporary measures for public health purposes. If there was any overreach (and I agree that OSHA's mandate was one such case), it was a temporary measure implemented for a valid reason, which was public health. The GOP expressed extreme opposition to the OSHA mandate, but now they are in favor of banning standard-of-care treatments and criminalizing doctors for offering treatments. This highlights the issue of a large and intrusive government, which they were previously critical of. But there is a big difference here - the previous federal government "overreach" were not anywhere near as intrusive since they were temporary, had exceptions, did not involve criminalization, and had support from the medical community.
Most of the right wing talking points about Covid mandates was that it was a stepping stone in brainwashing Americans to accept communism in the near future. These people are crazy.
. I remember as a little kid in elementary school in Texas having my mom have to provide vaccination records or else I can't enter the public school system. This was the 90s. These people could have Fox news tell them something completely contradictory to their childhood memories about this being a new creeping trend towards communism with this concept of a "mandate" when the "mandate" has existed for decades. Their news media literally makes these people ignore their childhood memories. That's how powerful these right wing media bubbles are.
Yes, there were a few posters here who were so sure it would be permanent and a means for the government to take over people's lives. They were wrong. Some of those same people are now supporting a big, bad, intrusive government. Not crazy, but very dishonest. As I said before, as long as it's about ME, they are okay with a big, bad, intrusive government. If you are truly concerned about a big, bad, intrusive government, you should not support today's GOP party.
