Charlie Blackmon is the guy I'm looking at. He has an .876 OPS against RHP. His home and away splits are not perfect. He's a hall of famer in Denver. On the road this year he hasn't been too bad. He is slashing. .263 AVG, .355 OBP, .767 OPS on the road. Certainly an upgrade over Julks. Don't get confused... it's not that I love Blackmon. The rental market is just weak for corner outfielders. Blackmon, Pederson, Soler, and McCutchen IF those teams fall out of the race are really the best you can hope for on the rental market. Soler is not nearly as good against RHP though. He mashes lefties. Grichuk is another possiblitly. He has been injured some but is raking through 94 ABs. Is it possible the Astros are able to acquire a bat that isn't a rental? Yes, but it is hard to predict which guys with control left will actually be available until we get closer to the deadline and start seeing rumors, etc. So for now I stick to the rentals that are more likely to be traded and cost less to acquire.
I think Blackmon has 10/5 rights so a full no-trade. I doubt he will leave Colorado. Even more so than prior years, we will really not be able to predict who will be available until maybe 2 weeks from the deadline. Teams are still too bunched together in the standings and early shoppers usually have to overpay which the Astros are very unlikely to do especially since they have some of their own players they are still evaluating.
I don't think getting Brown would be their big move, it would likely be a secondary addition. He can play 1st and the outfield. He is someone that hits righties for an OPS of around .800 and that should go up getting out of Oakland (he hits better on the road) and with the Astros line up around him.
**** Charlie Blackmon. He can't hit outside of Coors and is just as bad in the OF as Brown. Yall can do better than these scrubs! I have faith.
Ok, I have a question What is wrong with Bligh Madris? He is already in the organization and they liked him enough to bring him in this offseason. They keep starting Julks at LF and DH while he is barely average vs LHP ( with 2 better options) and terrible vs RHP (.656) I know AAA numbers don't translate directly but Madris has been great vs RHP at Sugar Land. 18.8% K rate. 18.1% BB rate .293 avg / .417 OBP / .517SLG= .934 OPS. His overall numbers are being dragged down by his PA vs LHP. Just swap him out with Julks. They can move Garcia to the 60 day to create a roster spot on 40.
You're getting really close to a roster crunch with redundant players. There's only so many LF/DH/1B types you can have on one roster, and we've already got 2: Alvarez/Abreu...then New Guy/Pray For Brantley Not my money, but the truly bold man (fortune favors the bold, right? that worked out great) DFA's Abreu around the deadline if he hasn't picked it up, while you acquire his replacement at the same time.
After a frustrating chip, JT just putted with his 60 degree lol. He really doesn’t gaf about the short game
Here's the list of corner outfielders and DHs that are free agents after this season. You tell me who tickles your fancy and is on a team likely to be a seller... I'm sure Seattle will be rushing out to length the Astros lineup lol Conforto would be a nice get and it's at least possible the Giants end up as sellers, though right now that wouldn't be the case
Yet nobody's willing to actually address it.... this MF should be hearing resounding boo's from the box for what he's provided this org.... dude sucks. A lot of you here are playing into the "legend" or myth-speak. He's washed out. Bad bet... straight up. Have fun believing in Bagwell & Abreu... worst signing in the org's history -- save maybe the Carlos' (Lee/Beltran)... but even they were able to mash it.
I'll see your worst signing and raise you an even worse extension. In the long run McCullers will cost the team more in both dollars, roster space,& the prospects it takes to move him.
Julks .268 AVG, .287 OBP, .671 OPS Teoscar .230 AVG, .268 OBP, .665 OPS Teoscar needs to wake up before I touch that. I'd rather bring up the strike out king in AAA... Mr. Dirden. At least Dirden is solid in the outfield. Julks is striking out 27% of the time so why not try someone else? Having an outfield of Dirden, Meyers, and Tucker would be fun to watch defensively. Duvall only has 33 more ABs than Brantley this year, and is just starting his rebab assignment for Boston. So lets see how he looks before we get all excited about his inflated numbers over an extremely small sample size.
I don’t understand why McCormick isn’t the everyday LF. No good reason to run Julks out there more than ever 4-5 games so that one of the other OF gets a rest day every so often.
