private companies, and utilities operate many conventional power plants. is there an inherent problem with nuclear plants that would require them to be government owned?
True, and I didn't phrase that right, should have instead phrased it as the lessening of government red-tape and regulations
the nuclear industry would remain highly regulated. removing red tape associated with new plants would foster one of the greenest initiatives we could take in the energy production sector.
Removing red tape is needed as alot of the regulations are dated back to old nuclear technology. This country needs major permitting reform ASAP. We can't be living with 1970 NEPA regulations when we are in a different environment. Mccarthy promised biden that a major permitting reform bill will happen this fall which will reform NEPA/judical review regulations. Judical review can hold up projects for years and years. Shouldn't take 8 years to build a reactor. Ridiculous
Oh I'm all for nuclear power, it's sad that it's been demonized to the point where there no popular or political will to invest in it. Now leave me alone and let me make fun of the silly libertarians in peace
Democrats literally just made the largest investment in nuclear in 40 years last year over 30b. There's tens of billions of more dollars for nuclear subsidies and the energy secretary is pushing SMR to replace coal plants. Nuclear is in the spotlight and dems are investing heavy in it.
I was not a huge fan of the eminent domain, they should have bought land or easements at market price from willing sellers. Once that was done, I certainly wasn't in favor of government bureaucracy stopping the construction.
I feel sorry for him. At a personal level, I prefer him very much to Newsom (or Trump). Father Time is undefeated.
Well sleepy Joe pulled a fast one on that young whippersnapper McCarthy...so maybe old Joe ain't too slow.
Yet he's still more Presidential than either of yall's contenders...so unfortunately there's that I'd love younger person soon, no doubt, need more younger person soon.
