Nook kinda hits on this as well, but while I think some of these names are appropriate (and honestly names I forgot about), I'm not sure other guys really fit. And you're also missing the guys Nook added, and I'd throw in guys like Westbrook or John Wall too. Some of these guys aren't as tall (though roughly the same as Fultz), but they're primary facilitators/playmakers who also use their athleticism quite a bit to generate offense. I assume that's how Amen will be used in the NBA.

A taller Westbrook/Wall is kinda what I'm guessing he'll be. That's on the high-ish end of course, as he'd still have to be an elite playmaker among other things to be at that level...otherwise he's MCW or something I guess.

This draft feels like last year draft….The big 3…..

Jabari,Chet and Pablo……the media darling was Jabari for the first pick and we thought we were getting Pablo and we did not want Chet because we was too skinny and thought we would get hurt(wait, what?)

    Now….

Scoot, Brandon and Amen…..everybody loves Brandon and think the Hornets are going to pick him but I think the Hornets is going to be pressured to pick Scoot, then Blazers pick Amen.

We are left with Brandon Miller? Nice shooter, average handles, average defender and nice length….no elite 1st step and have problems with defenders that have length and physicality

I would pick Ausar Thompson….elite 1st step, great secondary playmaker, great defender, great shot blockers, great rebounder and get steals. Average shooter, nice basketball IQ and great passer

If we do not get a Amen chose the brother, he is better than KJ…coming off the bench getting 20 plus minutes a game. He will fill the box score:

10 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks, 3 steals and 3 turnovers…also defend the best player on the team

Personally I don't have an issue with a win now player as long as said player can also win later when we are more Jalen / Jabari focused.

Thompson may end up not having a great comp or archetype. He may be the archetype.

One of the pods mentioned somewhere that while Ausar was working on 3 pt improvements, Amen focused in PnR and half court reads.

26% at NBA three is what a lot of these guys shoot early. End of OTE season and what we have seen so far shows a bit of an improved form.

The best shooter in the class (Miller) has holes too. Im hoping we come away with Henderson or Amen.

I wasn't basing this around anyone who can't shoot, just dudes who were known as playmakers as opposed to scorers, as well as having shooting concerns.

Also I made sure that everyone on that list shot below 70% from the free throw line in college, most of your boys didn't. FT shooting often translates better in the NBA than 3PT shooting in college.

In today's NBA, position isn't where you play in the offense, it's who you can guard on the other end. I heard the same thing about Simmons and he still played around 2 guards, even if he "started" at PG for that reason.

Thompson will guard 1-3 easy and some 4s. Plus, sag off him if you want….. He will be on you in a millisecond and specializes in making the right read.

That's interesting. I suppose it doesn't necessarily mean anything about the twins in particular though. He could be sitting in on all the workouts, or he just happened to be around today.

It won't be until Amen loses half a step that he becomes unable to get to the rim

Westbricks shooting didn't become an issue until his athleticism slightly declined

For sure. The thing that killed Westy was also being a shoot first player. I dont think that is Amen. He will take better shots.

You know, Portland is exactly the kind of team you can see falling in love with one of the Thompson twins. Same profile as Simons, Sharpe, etc

I think they will be playing the bait and switch game. If Miller is not available they will trade out of the pick.

Some of those guys don't really seem like great playmakers though (IMO). And even guys like Draymond, who are elite playmakers, are creating offense very differently from how Amen will likely create offense. It's not a bad idea to lump them all together so we can compare/contrast though.

Kinda random, but I think Adam Spinella thinks the "FT shooting is an indicator of 3pt potential" is a myth. I'd have to dig up his article, but think he ran some numbers and came up with like 1 out of 10 guys that fit that model (good FT shooter, poor 3pt shooter) end up becoming good 3pt shooters. Doesn't really apply specifically to the Amen discussion much though (Amen kinda sucks at both :( ).

I think there's truth to this, though I expect Amen to be able to guard 1s (or possible 2s if someone like JG would work better on the 1s). He'd be versatile enough to switch 1-3 (possibly 4) of course.

If he was a Rocket, I could see them going with KPJ (or swap in Harden), JG, and Amen, but I think that's so you can have more team playmaking/shooting. At some point though, for Amen to succeed he'd be your primary playmaker I think. Whether you call that a Point Forward or PG or whatever...doesn't really matter.

I do think they are going to try to trade the pick, but there's trying and there's succeeding, right? It's historically not easy to get these deals done. Hard to get a value back that satisfies both teams. And once front offices start working out prospects and thinking about these things it's easy to fall in love with a guy and start thinking he's too good to give up without a real overpay from the team they're trading with.

Maybe it'll happen, but we'll see.

So you think if they had the #2, they wouldn't take Scoot?

Yeah that’s an idiot take. Rockets will try to trade up for scoot. They might not be able to pull it off, but they’ll m sure they are trying. If he is there at 4 it will be the gift of a lifetime
