Righty starter for Oakland tonight. He's had pretty pronounced R/L splits, with significantly better numbers against lefties.
I'm good with this lineup as long as he hits Pena 2nd tomorrow. If Pena is 6th tomorrow this place will go nuts. Right now, Julks is better than Chas vs RH.
Those splits have no predictiveness and McCormick is a better playing than Julks in nearly every way. You probably are on the money though as far as this likely being Dusty’s thinking…which is par for the course with him.
vs RHP this year. Chas .535 OPS in 62 PA Julks .655 OPS in 104 PA. I don't understand how you can say stats have no predictiveness? Chas isn't playing better than Julks in hitting vs RH pitching.
Odd for pena to be rested on the first game of the series. I hope he's not injured. yea yea save me the "scheduled day off". Scheduled day off when they were off yesterday?
Dusty has always specifically looked for an off day to give guys 2 days off instead of 1. This has been pretty well documented many times
There are a whole host of reasons why those numbers mean nothing when projecting how each hitter will perform vs RHP moving forward. Verily a multitude of reasons!
Clearly you must still play the game and in baseball even the right decision doesn't work out all the time. But hitting vs a LH or RH pitcher (obviously depending on sample size?) is one of the most predictive things in baseball.
there is very little variance in platoon skill of batters. In most cases you are better off simply assuming a league average split for the given player, particularly less experienced players. https://baseballwithr.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/platoon-splits-what-is-the-platoon-skill-variation/
