Obama agreed to deep spending CUTS, Medicare cuts and SS cuts. Clinton agreed to major work requirements and spending cuts. They got rolled over. Biden is simply agreeing to spending CAPS not cuts. In December biden signed the largest omnibus ever which gave domestic programs record funding. The "cap" that's being placed on domestic programs are still being capped at record amounts.... Republicans literally got nothing. Biden pulled off another W
Because throwing people off benefits is cruel and evil? If the debt is so bad why are Republicans wanting to extend the trump tax cuts which will add 3 trillion to the deficit?
I don't see spending more and taxing more as a good thing. The silver lining is that all of this accelerates currency debasement and hastens bitcoin adoption.
Our aging population is the source for a lot of our rising spending…. No one is really serious about trying to upset that voting bloc.

The Democrats Have Already Lost the Debt Ceiling Fight Party leaders thought they had set a trap for Republicans. It hasn’t worked out that way at all. https://newrepublic.com/article/172908/democrats-already-lost-debt-ceiling-fight
Entitlements and Defense are far and largest part of our budget. Neither party wants to seriously cut those. In fact the Republicans want to increase defense spending. That’s why it’s ironic when they rail about things like spending on foreign aid which is a tiny fraction of the budget as thought cutting that would balance the budget.
Defense is funny. Voters on both sides want less defense spending and the Gov keep on increasing it. It's always off the table.

A summary--short, succint and to the point---of the developments to date. on the other end of the spectrum, this premature ejockulation, based on suppositions built upon suppositions / convenient claims. OT needs to inform the author that the negotiation is still ongoing. OT needs to inform the author that the Dem House leader is Hakeem Jeffries, who was never mentioned in the article, which conveninetly supposes that Kane, the Senator from Virginia, is the Dem party leader. roflmao OT needs to inform the author about Cap, not cuts, on spending
"Instead of raising the debt limit during the lame duck, when they still possessed a narrow advantage in both the House and the Senate, they made the strategic decision to do nothing." This already came up in this thread and it was already addressed. DEM didn't have the vote.
Biden trusted the GOP and took off the 14th amendment and he got a deal done. I was way more negative than Biden and thought the Republicans couldn't be trusted. My nihilism proved me wrong.
GOPers in the House, led by the weakest House speaker ever, aka the lawmaker from Hick town, CA, have opted to diffuse its manufactured crisis.
