You're a troll. The media is on the side of the GQP. 99% of the nation doesn't know what the debt ceiling is. We're so dumb as a country

So your point is the GOP should be voting to increase taxes on the wealthy so the country can pay down the deficit that Trump, Obama, and Bush incurred so the country can pay down it's debt faster??

That's about the only thing that makes sense from your comment.

The deal is going to be upsetting for everyone involved, but it's incumbent on Biden to get Democrats to vote for it. Default would be catastrophic. The Democrats deserve this pain for failing to see that the GOP would do this precise thing once in control of the House. It was obvious before the midterms and during the lame duck when they could've done something about it. Brian Schatz has even hinted that Sens. Manchin and Sinema (of course) were opposed to passing a debt ceiling increase during the lame duck.

Unfortunately, the GOP learned during the Obama years that there is no price to pay for weaponizing an arcane procedural vote that most Americans don't care about. They know that the sane actors (Democrats) won't allow the country to default and that they can portray this as having something to do with "fiscal discipline" even though it's extortion.

You called me insane for simply asking for timely negotiations so maybe you are the troll.

There was no way for Dems to do it in the lame duck. It would have needed 10 GOP Senators - the original hope was that McConnell might help out, but once he said no, it was dead. Manchin and Sinema were also opposed, of course.

Your lack of anything that could be considered a cogent rebuttal is not unexpected.
Yes, that is the video I was responding to, where Tribe makes appeals to emotion and McConnel clearly addresses the Constitutional issues with his position.

Major beat me to it but yea the Democrats weren’t likely to pass a debt ceiling then.

Any deal coming out of this isn’t going to be great for Democrats but getting a deal and or defaulting is critical. Any deal is not going to be great for Republicans either but the alternative for the whole country is worse.

No, they won't, be the more "moderate" (lol) Republicans will vote with enough Democrats to get it done.

They had somewhat a valid claim on "fiscal discipline" until history shows that they don't give a damn about it.

Yeah this is an incredible deal compared to the ones when Obama was president. All the Democrats are giving up is increases in spending tied to inflation. And they're keeping it flat based on the 2023 budget instead of the 2022 one.

Compare this to the absolutely ridiculous budget sequestration bill we got from the 2011 debt ceiling crisis and it looks even better.

Also you have to think that there's a backdoor deal where Democrats agree to vote present when Republicans inevitably try and overthrow McCarthy. I dont see how he agrees to this deal without assurances that Democrats will prop him up.

Someone on the Rep side isn't happy with where this is heading and leaked it to torpedo it.

And if that's the deal, McCarthy won't survive the Speaker's seat without Dem help, which means there might be a deal with the Dem to keep him as Speaker.

Reagan blew up the debt, cut welfare, fostered lax policies that resulted in the SNL bailout, then got praised for it because he "took down the USSR"

Con narrative is full of smoke n mirrors

Biden has negotiated the biggest bipartisan spending bills in decades (Chips + infrastructure + gun safety) while getting a very friendly debt ceiling deal with far right MAGA when nobody believed in him. It's sad how underestimated Biden is in the american eyes and how the public is so wrong about him.

I really do think 50 years from now Biden will have one of the greatest legacies of any POTUS. He's actually governoring
