This season had some great flops. From Pat Bev's cookout knees, to Lowry's double flop on PJ. Taking a road down memory on how NBA champions flops. 1. Defending the drive. Spoiler Lebron has good lateral quickness and is staying with Joe Johnson. But instead of D-ing Johnson straight up, he trust falls like a beech. Grade B 2. Getting the angle. Spoiler D-wade's elite court vision is not just for passing. Here, he sees the ref running behind him. Knows the ref is running to his spot on the sideline, as soon the Ref is behind him, he feints an eye poke as Manu goes for the ball. Bonus points since it's on Manu. Grade A- 3. Rebound elbow flop Spoiler Parson grabs the board. Marcus Smart gambles. The elbow wasn't high enough, but he may just fool the zebra if he sells it enough. Risky. Grade: B- 4. Elbow flop Spoiler Marcus take note, here's a better one by Bosh. Booze in high post, in triple threat stance, face up, about to go to work. The elbow stays in his personal space, but Bosh sells as the elbow go near eye level. Notice how Bosh bends his knee and keep his back straight. Timbeeerrr... Excellent flopping form, just excellent. Grade: A 5. Get the other team's star into foul trouble. Spoiler Away from the ball, CP3 shows why he is a future Hall of Famer. Grade: A+ Russ can't believe it.
What if the NBA adjusted challenge rules to allow coaches to challenge flops? If challenge is successful, player that flops gets a technical and coaches gets to keep coaches challenge. This way, we can maybe reduce some of the idiotic flopping that goes on in the league.
ppl luv arguing boring things like 'he ain't a lesder' Nobody care about things of substance, like this one. I think Lebron's flop have my jaw dropped grade a
NBA = Entertainment = TV = acting so basically refs go with what it looks like rather than what happened. Even if they don’t see it, they’ll make a call based on seeing someone fall. In other words: acting pays off and you get rewarded for exaggeration. It’s not in the NBA’s interest to stop it.
Is it going to be reviewable, one of the calls that can be challenged? If so, we need to hire Stephen Silas just to man the challenge button.
Sounds great in theory but I don't think many refs will have the balls to actually hand out techs during the actual game. There should be a dedicated team in the replay center to review video and communicate to the refs on-site when there is a flop, so they can penalize.
Forgot to mention that if Silver had just enforced the anti-flopping warnings and fines this wouldn't even be an issue. I have no idea why they stopped doing it, but they're creating a solution when we already had a solution which they abandoned smh.
Overheard the Competition Committee meeting: "We got to do something about flopping. That LeBron clip went viral." "Don't we already have an anti-flopping warning and fine thing? Why invent a new thing?" "We do? What happened to it?" "I don't know. Who's responsible for enforcing it?" Silence for 30 seconds. Everybody looked down on their hands. "Hmm... We need to do something. Did I mention the LeBron clip?" "Yeah. If we sat on our hands, people would think LeBron was the one who's really running the league." "Didn't people already thought that years ago?" "Yeah, but we didn't have Tik Tok back then."
Obviously they can't have the refs reviewing flops. It would have to be assessed by people off the court and then relayed back down to the court after. Maybe assess the technical on a dead ball after it has been reviewed off the court. Having refs review these things would destroy the flow of the game even more.
