These trade proposals don’t just suck, they are insane to a degree that makes me rethink anything I ever read from Kelly Iko. Like, every one of these would be arguably the the worst value trade in NBA history. I would rather have done the Gobert trade than give up #4 + two unprotected firsts for Cam Johnson. None of the players in the list are even worth the #4 pick straight up (most of them not even close) and Kelly has us giving more unprotected picks and taking bad money too. The #4 pick in this year’s draft is something like a top 50 trade asset in the league (players and picks). It’s our most valuable single trade asset. I love all our guys, but taking off the homer glasses, we realistically could not trade Jalen, Jabari, or Sengun straight up for #4 if another team had the pick. These trades so bad that the league would probably step in and block them.
Need shooting as well. Add to the Nets trade all of their assets back for Curry. Then the Rockets sign Kyrie Irving! Then world ends out of sheer embarrassment.
I know what I read no need to reiterate. I think you are undervaluing Tate and KMJ. I already explained my position and your proposal is unrealistic and shortsighted. That’s my take. Btw honest question. Have you ever seen a team deal two productive bench guys and 2 first rounders for a lottery draft pick? Besides what players are Rockets taking back to match contracts?
It wasn’t my proposal and you mentioned Orlando in your first response which made no sense to me. I don’t think the proposal deserved a “lol”. It really depends on how highly the FO values Scoot. If it was Wemby they would do the deal for sure, would you? I believe Scoot will become an all-star PG which is exactly what the Rockets need to take the next step toward a championship. Giving up the #4 pick in the draft and 2 journeyman players for an all-star PG is a good deal. Of course, if Amen is better or Scoot is not all-star level it’s a bad deal. Draft picks are gambles, I just don’t think Tate and KMJ are that valuable as players or trade assets. As far as matching contracts that is not a requirement. Neither team has to match because of their salary cap situations.
Keldon 2022-23: 22.0/5.0/2.9 55% TS -0.9 EPM Poor defender Age 23 $20M/yr KJ Martin second half of 2022-23: 15.3/5.4/1.5 65% TS -1.2 EPM Poor defender Age 22 $1.9M/yr KJ Martin’s trade value > Keldon Johnson’s?
Ok my bad I said Orlando but meant Charlotte. What are you talking about? Why would Charlotte take on additional salary without giving anything back? Hey your opinion its a great deal.
Iko is plugged in as far as news sources. He should lean into that instead of writing basketball trade proposals. I also don't know what the 'editor' situation is over there at the Athletic, he could also use his connections with the other HOU beat writers and old friends A Bryiani as a sounding board before publishing.
I would do that trade without hesitation. If it’s for what a team think is a foundational player making the backcourt for the next decade. I sure TF would not hold that up for 2 bench players. That is asinine to even suggest. This is what the Rockets have been bad for 3 years for. Accumulating multiple young players to then consolidate to create a core. It’s not like you wouldn’t still have multiple young players on the team still along with ALL of the Nets assets still there along with cap space. Garuba Eason Sengun TyTy Christopher Nets Assets KPJ Jabari Green Scoot Henderson Cap Space for vets And the Rockets are worried about KMJ/Tate/pick20…. psssshhhhhhhhhh
Keldon is a big no to me. He took a step back this year after getting paid. Has potential but would want to see improvement before committing. Johnson is interesting as a shooter but he's undersized for a stretch 4, not a great defender, and not a great rebounder. He's an RFA so no need to give up assets unless saving cap space. If he was giving you 4-5 assists and about the 4-5 rebounds you could live with him as a 3. I see smaller more athletic Ryan Anderson and a fringe starter. Maybe a Duncan Robinson is better comp. Given neither is likely going to an allstar game I would pass. They need a couple big stars, they have some role players already.
What's frustrating about those trade proposals is that they bring up some interesting ideas, but the comp involved is so extreme that I can't take them seriously. Keldon Johnson? That's an interesting thought. But for #4 AND next year's first? Get out of here. Murray and Collins? That's interesting. But for #4 AND two FRPs? Get out of here. I'm not sure I'd give up #4 and two future first for Bridges, much less Cam friggin' Johnson.
That article is a joke. They're using the Rockets to make all other teams better because they're riding with the media overblown idea that this organization is supposed to be a mess and incompetent. First they turned Wemby and the World against Houston and now they want Houston to give everything to SA for Keldon ****ing Johnson after watching Wemby celebrate not going to Houston. Im sure Windys fat ass was there celebrating too. Such a joke.
“Coming out of the combine, my understanding was the Nets aren’t interested in trading Bridges to Portland and would want more than the No. 3 pick and Simons (or Shaedon Sharpe) than just those two assets, if they did. That makes sense, too. If the Blazers are that desperate to help Dame, why not push for more? I don’t think Simons is a good return because he’s an older player and already got paid. Sharpe is younger and on the better deal.” https://theathletic.com/4549830/2023/05/25/brooklyn-nets-mailbag-trade-draft
Bridges is 26 locked up for the next 3 years of his prime coming off a great playoff showing as a #1. If im Brooklyn im building around him in that eastern conference unless they get an offer they can't refuse. As an example. The suns were a lower tier playoff team led by the very underrated KJ. Although KJ was younger than Bridges when Chuck chose the Suns and his presence added turned them into contender overnight. Nets could do this with Bridges and company and hope a fed up superstar wants to join them. Stay afloat like Cleveland and then get your Mitchell and contend for years.
If they turn down sharpe and 3 for bridges that’s just batshit insane. What’s the point of building around bridges? To try to win 30 games instead of 25? Who cares
That article made *more* confident the Nets are trading Bridges than I was before. I was thinking no before, but now I'm thinking they will. This is 100% a negotiation now. Nets got badly outleveraged in the Harden-to-Philly trade and vowed to never get outnegotiated again. They're pushing "Mikal Bridges is our future" so hard that it strains credulity. They've got Bridges photo opp's out there sitting next to the owner, longform interviews with Bridges about being the franchise player, the works. I respect their commitment to the bit. They want #3 + Simons + Sharpe and Portland is only offering #3 + Simons. Great opportunity for Houston to step in and make it #4 + Simons + Brooklyn's 2024 pick + Brooklyn's 2025 swap, Houston gets #3 (for Scoot), and Portland gets Bridges.
