Funny you mentioned Glen Barker. I am the General Manager of dining services for the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. This is Glen's College. I walk by his history board each day on my way into my office. The college has a mini Shrine dedicated for him.

Young was supposed to be the next Ricky Henderson.

Uh....not even close to Ricky. Ricky hit bombs, Ricky did lots of Ricky stuff. Ricky liked to talk about Ricky in the 3rd person.

(you can go on a serious deep youtube dive of videos of guys who played with Ricky telling Ricky stories)

Gerald Young was the couldabeen Vince Coleman.

Glen "feets don't fail me now" Barker. He was the worst baserunner for a fast guy that I've maybe ever seen.

This is a great Ricky one too, wait until the end

...and to get this thread back on track, Cesar Cedeno could have been better than Ricky

I know we netted Mancini for Siri, but was there another reason we traded him? Did he not fit into our clubhouse culture? Or did I just make that up? I seem to remember him being sent back down after he hit a HR and maybe showboated a little too much?

They liked Meyers and McCormick more. There was no room for him and TB offered something of value for him (Jayden Murray and one of the prospects that went to Baltimore for Mancini).

Good for Siri…he’s having a helluva season. I think we were rightfully over him, and we won the WS…can’t keep ‘em all, and several will go on to be solid players elsewhere. Really, this should help us in the trade market, that former Astros so often thrive elsewhere.

Siri is a high risk high reward player. Last season he was swinging out of his shoes and was missing pitches by feet.

The one thing Siri brought that no one else brought to the lineup was top tier speed on the basepath. Astros have player with good speed but not elite.

But the last ball player with top tier speed also got traded. Straw lol.

2023 MLB sprint stats from baseball savant:

    Jose Siri 9th 29.8 ft/sec. 98th percentile
    Jeremy Pena 15th. 29.5 ft/sec. 97th percentile
    Jake Meyers 27th. 29.2 ft/sec. 94th percentil
    Myles Straw 30th. 29.1 ft/sec 94th percentile

Pena and Meyers have top tier speed but neither are good base stealers.
