Should be pretty obvious. It shows that the archetype can win regardless of how narrow minded Rockets fans tend to be. They are often shortsighted and only want to copy something after it's successful.
While it is very true that the Jokic is justifying the archetype, it doesn't mean Sengun will definitely get anywhere close to what he has done. There is a difference between the archetype and the apex of the archetype. Sengun has no where close to his size which isn't going to change. He also doesn't have his shooting touch, and he won't get away with the awkward motion Jokic sometimes uses because Sengun lacks height. Also many call Jokic the greatest passing big man EVER or even best passer ever. As good as Sengun has been with passing, I'm not sure he can get there again because he is a few notches below the touch of Jokic and definitely the height for the sight lines. I'm not saying give up on Sengun, but just because he could be a poor man's Jokic doesn't mean he can be the focal point of a title team.
Idk see him being a few notches below Jokic as a passer at all. I see a lack of opportunities on the side of Sengun. And of course Jokic and Sengun aren't the same player but the justification that Clutch and many others in the Rockets community use to trade him before he can even drink is that the archetype doesn't work. You need your "rim running vertical threat". As many times as I've told people like this that there is no one way to win in basketball they start listing people to copy. Well here it is. The last time Denver was healthy they were in the WCF. Now they are in the NBA finals. The formula can work very well.
While what you say is true, the success of Jokic does present a counter argument that unathletic poor defensive big man can't be the best player on a championship team. It at least silences the "you can't win with this kind of player" argument and bring the debate on the particular player rather than the type of player. There is an inherent bias when you use the type to dismiss certain players.
Okay, the idiotic ‘Jokic cannot win in the playoffs’ argument will now be replaced by ‘Sengun is not jokic and will not be’ as if you can only win if you are jokic level. Most likely scenario for Sengun is being much better than Sabonis, vucevic etc and worse than jokic. Being worse than jokic is okay, you can be a building block or even the key player in a contender.
so wait, now Sengun is basically Jokic and we're gonna have to endure the NBA finals filtered through the Sengun is the Nuggets' franchise player lens??? no thank you.
@Os Trigonum, @maj21, @Verbal Christ, @rocketchamp, @larsv8 trying to go after Sengun and his "archetype"...oh sorry...they "love Sengun, just going after his fans".
Silas should go to HIS strengths and stop coaching!! He was a heck of a tank commander doe!!! Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
Some sengun haters are giving booby our best mental gymnastics member a run for his money with the amount of argument changes with jokic recent success
Whenever Silas was questioned about how he used Sengun, he always fumbled for some nonsensical excuses. If he was so adamant about players playing on their strengths, then he should give Sengun more opportunities to used his strength which was his playmaking. And he should discourage KPJ of being the playmaker because that was clearly NOT KPJ's strength.
