Newsom would send another democrat to replace her…I’m not seeing the problem here.

RGB could've retired in 2013 and had a democratic senate replace her. The issue with Feinstein is if she retires we need republican support to replace her which won't happen. There's so many op Ed and people calling for her resignation without stating the risks.

These folks want her to retire so dems can stop confirming judges. It's right wing propaganda.

Her seat on the judicial committee is the problem.

Her Senate replacement does not automatically get her seats in committee. Those are subject to a filibuster proof majority (60 votes).

They've already sought a temporary replacement reprieve, which Republicans very graciously and fairly told them to shove up their asses.

Joe manchin already said he isn't changing the rules so that's not a option. And there is no "damn if you dont" bs. She's voting for every judge and confirmation appointees that biden has selected.

Guess who missed the vote yesterday? @fchowd0311

BERNIE SANDERS is missing more votes than anyone else.

I don’t know why I thought it was a simple majority. Long live Senator Feinstein!

It's not your fault at all. AOC Ro khanna and every other lefty is calling for her resignation. The fact that I know more about senate procedure rules than aoc is the perfect symbolism of the progressive movement.

The progressive movement is literally the biggest joke I've ever seen. It's hilarious when folks think AOC is somehow the future. She's dumb as dirt.

AOC tweet demanding Feinstein resignation has over 15 million views. Pure disinformation from braindead lefties

It does beg the question as to what would happen if she did resign outright.

Her committee replacement would need 60 votes to get in... that means 9 Republicans signing on to a D replacement.

Would the committee seat just go unfilled for an indeterminate amount of time? Until X year when they finally have a filibuster proof majority?

That doesn't seem very logical or healthy for the country.

They could also try to lower the threshold for committee assignments to a simple majority and call the bluffs of the Manchins/Sinemas of the world.

If she resigns then the committee seat she was sitting on will go unfilled and none of the judges that are tied in committee will be eligible for a floor vote. Whenever POTUS recommends someone to be judge they have to have confirmation hearings in the appropriate committees. If they don't get voted out of committee they stay stuck.

If she resigns we will be confirming no judges for next 18 months when there's over 100 open seats

I did not realize this either, so much for me wanting her to step aside..........some of the rules are just silly, but they are the rules

It's not your responsibility to know. You have a life and a career. It's pathetic that politicians like AOC who are millionaires nd do politics for a living don't know simple procedures. She has a staff of 20 people that work for her yet she doesn't know basic senate procedures.

Obama and Clinton stacked the bench with old corporate lawyers. Biden is stacking the bench with young civil rights lawyers and public defenders who will shape our future for decades.

The idea that we should capitulate to the Republicans is INSANE

A lot of the early pressure was for her to step down from the committee (not the Senate), because there was a chance (albeit minute) that she could have been replaced... But first things first, she had to agree to it.

I checked the rules and you are correct that any replacement to the committee could be filibustered. I know why she was absent they was the problem that the Republicans could filibuster a temporary replacement but it appears they could a permanent one.

As is though we’re just from her getting sick again to this situation so from the Democrats side bear hope she makes it to the end of the term too.

AOC has over 50 million socal media followers yet she's running around giving interviews how Dianna should retire. This is the modern day progressive movement. @DonnyMost claimed biden is too old nd moderate yet the lefty movement is literally dumb as dirt. Bernie and company were never interested in actually governoring. Never

Having politicians who are wise and know the senate rules seems like a very very good thing. "Young progressives" like AOC, Jamal bowman and others literally want to drive the party off a cliff.

What? Nobody should say anything about Feinstein retiring for health concerns because the margins are so very narrow. But slamming Bernie (who has already endorsed Biden) is an idiot and not interested in governing.
