I always liked Yaz but why should the Astros give up anything for a LH hitting OF? Its only a band aid and Dirden has more upside. He could potentially be justvas goid and will be much much cheaper in salary and trade cost. And if you are going to start talking about K rate, realize that Yaz has a 28% K rate this year and 25% career vs RH pitching but yes has mashed when making contact - just like Dirden.
Yas hits RHPs almost as well as Tucker. Chas hits LHPs significantly better than Tucker. Even if they are only optimally used 80% of the time, you are talking about getting all-star offensive production out of CF very cheaply. I consider all star production to be more than a band aid. On Dirden, if he pans out, he would not disappear if the Astros acquired Yas. Dirden and Yas would easily platoon well with Meyers and Chas assuming Dirden can hit RHPs in the majors.
Anyone know who is going down for Altuve to be activated? I would think Julks It's certainly either Julks, Salazar or Hensley I don't think it's Salazar cause I think Brown is still hoping Dusty will start playing Diaz more Julks has certainly hit better than Hensley who was been awful, but we really don't need a 6th OF and although Julks has hit better than Hensley, it's only because of how bad Hensley has been. Julks is hitting .182 with a .441 OPS in May, at least Hensley offers some defensive versatility Yordan Tucker Meyers McCormick Julks only leaves Dubon as a backup MI and he will play some CF also Just seems like poor roster construction if that's the direction they go. I mean Julks and Hensley have both been god awful offensively I suppose if they do go with Hensley down, that would force dusty to play Diaz at 1B if Abreu is out
And while Yas has been elite vs RHP in 73 at bats this year, he had a .737 OPS vs them last year in 362 at bats. Don't get me wrong, having him as a platoon guy would be fine if we had to give up nothing for him, but I wouldn't give up a legit asset for him Not to mention Yordan Tucker Meyers McCormick Dubon Yas As I mentioned already with the current roster move, that wouldn't be great roster construction, not when you are already carrying 3 catchers
So you want Dirden and Yas platooning with Meyers and McCormick while also carrying Yordan and Tucker on the roster?
I seriously wonder in what universe you imagine Dusty playing a platoon guy much less vs the proper handed pitcher. I'm not even disputing Dusty's methods...Chas was Mike Trout vs LHP and he still didn't play him...but we won the world series. So...I dunno...old people aren't morons I guess...I know he isn't going to run some Yaz/Chas platoon though.
76-43 = .639 winning percentage Stros have accomplished that only twice since '17 and are arguably the most injured they've ever been this season
I hope Altuve is a little more selective with the pitches he hits. He was chasing badly in the playoffs and spring training.
I'm pretty sure it would take away any reasonable opportunity that Dirden has. Its very tough to keep 4 platoon outfielders in addition to Yordan and Tucker when there is only a 4 man bench. Yaz isn't a rental. He has 3 years of control left. Its not like he would be coming in for a playoff run and then Justin can come to Spring training and win the job Yaz had. Its pretty redundant and limiting to keep both of them on the roster and that doesn't even take Gilbert and the other young lion Lh hitting outfielders into consideration.
It would be nice but realistically they don't need to do that. I bet 95 wins will take the division and the #2 seed securing a 1st rd bye. Heck 90 may do. We already talked about the Rangers remaining schedule and the Twins are currently leading the central on an 88 win pace. FYI: Rangers have the 12th hardest remaining schedule @ .503% winning percentage of opponents. Astros have 28th @ .485% Angels 10th @ .506% Mariners 14th @ .502% poor A's 3rd @ .515%
The main thing with the Stros is making the playoffs and being healthy as possible going in Our experience and pedigree gives us advantage over every team regardless if wild card or division winner But, I still like the roundness of 100 Covid stopped our 100-streak. I believe no team or only one has had 4 consecutive 100-win seasons I prefer the Astros being the most historical as possible Yes, I'm a tad greedy
That actually works with 2 catchers and one IF for everyone. You could do that as long as all your regulars were healthy. As soon as you had one go down though you’d have to send one of them back down and call up another IF
