Is it me, or does Whitmore's game feel like a power forward type of game. Problem is he's 6'7". Reminds me of Jae Crowder, which is also who NBADraft.net compares him to. He can be a rotation player on a playoff team, but is he worthy of the #4 pick? We need role players at some point -- they can't all be ball dominant scorers. We need shooting. I'd be fine with Gradey Dick -- at least you know your floor is an exceptional 3-point shooter and a player who is smart and motivated.
I think he’s going to be better than most of the guys that are projected to go before him by most mocks, so I’ve got no issue with picking him at 4. He’s got some underrated playmaking skills…really good size at 6’8”. Not the best athlete, but he isn’t a complete stiff. Will be 19 when drafted. And I think his game would fit any team. But enough about him in this thread from me. This is about Whitmore who I also like.
To me, Whitmore would fit right in on the Rockets. A player with great potential... Driving with his head down, trapped on the baseline because he missed the opportunity to pass earlier. Constantly trying to muscle up a shot over NBA players that know exactly where he's going. Questionable range at best, especially when pushed out from the NCAA 3-point line. Whitmore doesn't move the needle for years unless our coaches unlock something early. If he's the pick at #4, I'm surprised.
Cam had my attention in high school. Although this season he was battling some nagging injuries - his game didnt seem to advance. He's a high motor WAY above the rim guy. His FT% is suspect and his 3 is spotty. I think he would be redundant on this team and I would probably ride with KMJ instead. Im actually eyeballing Taylor Hendricks at 4. I didnt think I would convince myself of that, but the tape dont lie!
Yes, I've been pushing for Cam Whitmore all season. I'm good with either Cam Whitmore or Jarace Walker. Tale of the Tape Player................FGA......FG%....3PA....3P%....FT% Whitmore:...........9.8.......47.3%...4.2....34.3%...70.3% Jarace Walker:...9.4.......46.5%....2.8....34.7%...66.3% Player................Ast....Rebs....mins....pts...TS%.....eFG%.....PER Whitmore:...........0.7.....5.3.........27.....12.5...57.1%...55.1%.....20.5 Jarace Walker:....1.8.....6.8........28.....11.2...53.4%...53.4%......22.1 Both remind me of Celtics players (Whitmore/Smart....Jarace/Robert Williams) that Ime Udoka- can improve. Cam Whitmore Much like Marcus Smart....Marcus flies under the radar as Tatum and Jaylen Brown are the main focus of the defense. Smart takes advantage of the situation and picks his opportunities here and there. After catching the defense off balance, Marcus uses his strong frame to draw fouls and/or get his baskets and the foul. Cam will do this in spades as he is a 6'7' will often get momentum towards the basket and will be a force to handle in the Udoka offense of ball movement mixed in with off ball screens. The passing will develop as Udoka stresses the extra pass and open windows of opportunities from off ball screen cutting. Jarace Robert Williams took off under the coaching of Ime Udoka-. I'm reading that defensively Udoka- put Robert Williams on the worst shooter which allowed Williams to sag off in the paint and play somewhat of a free safety in the paint protecting the rim. I would rather draft one or the other and trade future picks
Whitmore is a reasonable pick at 4. Super young, still 18. A whole 2.5 years younger than the Thompson.
I think from 4-10 it’s pretty debatable 2x Thompsons Whitmore Walker Black Hendricks hell you might even think miller or scoot is in this group
Yes, @saleem and I have discussed TH. My only concern with Taylor is his level of competition I with made a thread on Udoka and his play style. Taylor would fit in great. So would Jarace and Whitmore. I personally would stay away from Scoot Henderson and Amen because of lack of shooting. Jarace and Whitmore were not scorching from 3 but do many things as well.
I guess you are right but going straight line with a lot of power is the most important imo see Zion, Lebron and Anthony Edwards. I dunno how you can say Amen is so much better in things like fluidity and body control when they are up against very diff levels of comp. The way you keep describing Amen if isn't dunking over everyone in the NBA he'd be a massive disappointment.
