Surprise surprise on Doc lol. Morey probably never wanted to work with him anyways but had no choice since he was already on board when he got hired.

BS. The NBA is a make or miss league. The Sixers were the most efficient offense in the NBA during the season. But in Games 6 and 7, Harden and Embiid could not hit the broad side of a barn.

If Morey's hope is to bring in D'Antoni and try to recreate 2017-2018 Rockets, well, we all saw how that ended. It is more likely it will look like his seasons with the Knicks and Lakers: 40 win teams that barely made the playoffs.

Honestly, I don't know who they should hire at this point. Problem with the NBA today is that few coaches know how to develop players, and even fewer know anything about coaching a game with a dominant big man. Jokic is a rare bird, as he is a big man who plays on the perimeter; more Dirk than Dream.

If Embiid really wants to be a dominant force, he needs to learn to get his rear in the paint and make it his house. He is too slow to be sitting at the three point line. He is not Anthony Davis. However, he will need a coach to design an offense that will make it work.

As for Harden, at this point I would let him leave. I have always been a Harden defender, and at his best he was awesome and I will always remember what he did for us. However, it is clear he is cooked, and honestly, after the last three years with all of his injuries, if he is not smart enough to realize he needs to slim down, then he is either doing it on purpose or he is stupid. Since I don't think its the latter, it is clearly the former. Thus, not worth the money. Unless he wants to take $15M a year, I would let him walk and give that money to Maxey and look to make a trade for a disgruntled star (i.e., Lillard).

Do players (embid) prefer friends as coaches?
    Does JJ like Harden?
    Does Harden like JJ?
Does Harden care so long as he gets the bag.

They probably pick JJ to make Embiid happy but get Dantoni or some other analytics friendly guy as the lead assistant. JJ is probably just the puppet.

I actually like JJ as an analyst though so this would suck. And, I'm not sure at what level he has ever coached to be successful at this job.

Minor update on the Pistons. They originally nailed the final list down to three candidates: Jaron Collins (pelicans), Charles Lee (Bucks) and Kevin Ollie (OTE, formerly UCONN). Supposedly three of them flew over to L.A. to meet with Pistons Owner Tom Gores and GM Troy Weaver. But a week has passed, including their disappointing lottery pick at 5th, still no head coach named. There's speculation the owner wasn't impressed with the guys at the meetings and the candidates' sales pitch.

The finalist might be expanded again. Monty was a name throw in (and out, maybe back in again if Monty is interested).

One of the critique on Troy's original three list, were people that Troy knew prior. Was Troy choosing people he knew (control & indebted to him) vs people with better qualifications.

    ----
    Commentary:

As years go by; i'm less and less impressed with Weaver. While he was credited for Westbrook during his OKC stint, his >= 4 years with Pistons (trade and signing) has been less impressive. After leaving OKC, Presti is still doing well with his team rebuild (# picks, plus some of the young prospects).

Pistons on the other hand, is still bottom tier. This year worse than us even. The three dratees in 2020-21, Saddiq, Sekou, Killian, and Isiah Stewart. (2 of the 4) were 'misses', are no longer there. Current projections on the other two: are likely role players; and someone hitting their surprised ceilings. He favors athletic types over skill ball. Choosing Ivey (who still has potential), but also traded for guys like Wiseman, over skill ball. Hitting on Russ, was good for Weaver, but when Russ was a rookie, NBA was still evolving and skills like shooting is much more valued now.
