The false equivalence that Sengun will be as good or better than Jokic because of what players they were at 20 is just the cruelest way to stan. I'll be waiting for the playoff run where Alpie goes 8-13 from 3 point land and stretches a defense without clogging the paint. I dont see too many baby hooks winning playoff games and up until this year Denver was just fodder in the playoffs - to those that "know ball" where did Denver improve??? Want me to give you a hint?
I will make a case here: I was mentioning the past two days that fair or not, the Rockets organization really is still tied to James Harden from a reputation standpoint, and culturally. Even moreso than Tillman who is the current owner, and Harden is a 76er (for the next few weeks at least). Harden, for whatever reason... is despised around the league, and especially with the media. Sengun, on the other hand, even for a 2nd year player, is very popular outside of the Rockets, and the basketball junkie media types love him. I'm not saying we extend him for the max today, and go sign Sengun specific veteran role players to play off of him. However I do think that it would be worth the Rockets while to feature him a bit more in terms of media, advertising, etc. Get him on ESPN for interviews, get the Iko/Feigan, etc. to run more stories about him, etc. Sengun, if he pans out basketball wise as a longterm starter, could pay dividends for the Rockets and Houston in terms of outside cultural reputation. The guy is very popular, and his brand is fun to watch for non-Houston fans & the basketball media outside of Houston. I am really hoping he solidifies himself this year because it could pay much needed dividends in terms of the reputation of the Rockets brand which shouldn't matter, but we all know it does.
So if Sengun cant play drop coverage what do you expect him to do guard the perimeter and "shift his feet faster" to prevent drives??
What do I expect him to do? I have no idea man, I'm not a coach. I'm posting a quote where our current coach (who has a reputation for being a great defensive minded coach) says he thinks he knows how to use Sengun in a way that he can be a good defensive center. That's exciting to me.
Thank you! When last year I talked about the profits he'll provide the Rockets with, people made fun of me.
Senguns issues on defense are all physical limitations. Not sure how Udoka is going to make Alperens feet slide faster or get more vertical bounce at the rim or to contest jumpers on screeners/rollers. I find it curious that everyone is quick to point the finger at Silas in regards to SEngun in drop coverage when in reality thats about all you can do with the player as-is. Im genuinely curious for those that 'know ball' more than I do how it will change.
It's ok to admit that you're wrong. Especially when you have been proven wrong objectively. Of course you can keep bullsh*tting to entertain us more than you already have. Your call.
