LOL Not saying whether you should or shouldn’t like Amen. I was just saying we’ve seen the tweet 9 times now. (And I’m not sure how many are “moved” by it.)

I personally don't believe he's got the right mechanics to shoot better at all right now but hey if it provides "hopium" to other dudes on here, that's great with me.I am just not some negative nancy who's just going to bag on the guy before he even starts his career. To be fair, I did post about him not being a taller Ja Morant type last night.

    He's more of a 6'7 rajon rondo with a 7ft wingspan.
Ja has so many tools in his tool bag including pistols

The Athletic writer is really high on Thompson. Also believes a Green and Thompson backcourt where both hit their ceilings would be the best backcourt in the NBA.

Would you be happy if we get him and realize that he's Lonzo Ball?

I don’t even know how u grow up with a jumper like that as a NBA level prospect

It would be 1 thing if he had a hideous jumper, but it went in like a Shawn Marion or Kevin Martin so he never changed it, but that monstrosity of a jump shot combined with the results? How do u allow yourself to reach the age of 20 and it’s like that?

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...-rockets-nba-draft-amen-thompson-18104974.php

CHICAGO — When Amen Thompson searches for his name in the assorted mock drafts and ample speculation that comes for NBA prospects at this time of year, it does not take long to find where he falls.

A day after the lottery left the Rockets with the fourth pick in the June 22 draft, Thompson was widely thought to be their most likely choice. He has noticed.

“I’m focused on the work,” he said, “but I’m always trying to see where I can possibly be depending on the team.”

Thompson going to the Rockets assumes that Brandon Miller and Scoot Henderson will be the second and third picks after the sure-thing choice of Victor Wembanyama to start the draft.

Things can change, and at least one of the teams picking before the Rockets are on the clock might still need to be determined, with the Trail Blazers thought to be open to dealing the third choice. But if Thompson does go to the Rockets, he said Wednesday that would be fine with him.

“Houston’s a good spot for me,” Thompson said. “A lot of good spots for me.”

Thompson interviewed with Portland and Orlando on Wednesday. He is scheduled to meet with the Rockets on Thursday.

“They get to know me. We both get to know each other in that process,” he said of the interviews. “It’s fun for me.”

Thompson is typically thought to be in the echelon after Wembanyama, Henderson and Miller. But his strength can match with any prospect's best quality.

Athletically, Thompson reaches rare air. He does not just play above the rim; he and his twin brother Ausar seem to hang around up there, with talent and touch to finish inside. He has shown a feel and taste for facilitating and defends with a determination to be disruptive and trigger breaks.

Asked to describe his attributes, Thompson said, “Just being able to get wherever I want, facilitate, defensively lock up one through three, push the pace.”

Asked which brother is better, Thompson did not say, “Amen, brother,” but did pat his chest with a smile and said, “You know.”

Measuring well at the combine — just shy of 6-7 with a 7-foot wingspan — he would seem an easy choice in the range the Rockets will pick, if not sooner. But there are concerns.

As much as Thompson’s prodigious athletic gifts might be undersold, so too could his shortcomings as a perimeter shooter. Playing with Overtime Elite might have helped him hone skills in many ways, but the only player with similar physical abilities shared a backcourt and some DNA, making it impossible to work against competition that could have helped prepare him for the next step and aid in evaluating how ready he is for the NBA or when he will be ready.

“Getting to the cup, getting in the paint, facilitating, defense — that’s already ready,” he said. “The shot’s going to come. Everything’s going to come. I’m not a finished product yet.”

Thompson said he has, however, learned about running an offense and producing as a playmaker.

“Just learning that the first defender is not really there; it’s the second defender I (was able) to really learn about, the second line of defense,” Thompson said. “Just slowing down the game for myself, finding better reads, making it easier for my teammates.”

He said he improved at “reading everything, facilitating, jump shot, becoming a better leader, defensively.”

Thompson spent two seasons in the Overtime Elite program since he was a five-star recruit out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he moved from California in eighth grade. He said the experience was good for him and that he would recommend it but added, “It depends on what you want.

“If you’re a player who wants development, I would recommend OTE to you,” Thompson said. “College is good for some kids, G-League, overseas. It really depends.”

Whenever he is ready for the next level, Thompson, 20, would give the Rockets, if he is their choice, a dynamic backcourt when paired with Jalen Green. He and Ausar were sensational on breaks, offering a pairing similar in OTE games to what Green is on the run in the NBA. The Rockets would need to defend better to run more, but that will be true no matter whom they draft.

“It would be great to be with a player like Jalen Green,” Thompson said. “He can get off the bounce, too, create for others, just like me.

“Fast-flowing team, a team that can get in transition — I can help them with that.”

Just as Thompson will be busy meeting with and working out for teams leading up to the draft, the Rockets have a long way to go to determine what they will do on draft night. He cannot be considered certain, despite the mock drafts, to be their choice. It is guaranteed he will be carefully considered.

“I can definitely see fitting in Houston,” Thompson said. “I can see a lot of places right now. Just working out with the team, see what it really is, seeing where I can contribute — I’m excited for that process.”

Folk complaining about Amen's shot need to understand that if he was a better shooter right now the Rockets would have absolutely no chance at him. He would be the unanimous 2nd pick in that case and probably the third best overall prospect in the last 20 years behind Lebron and Wemby.

Yeah, that's the thing--issues with the level of competition playing in OTE, issues with his jump shot are already baked into his ranking as a consensus top 5 pick. If those issues didn't exist he would be damn near on Wemby's level because he's almost as much of a physical freak.

To be honest I wouldn’t be against drafting a guy who was like Lonzo in his 2nd year. That said Amen doesn’t look disciplined from the highlights I’ve seen. He had a 1.8 assist to turnover ratio and Lonzo’s was 3.1 in college against better competition.

What a content-free shill article by Feigen. I'm good because I say so; That is Amen's entire sell at this point.

He's definitely more of a project, high ceiling type of player.

If Amen was a good shooter none of the above mentioned would get close to his level. He'd be closer to Lebron as a prospect. KD didn't even go 1st over Oden. Oddly enough Luka was the 3rd pick because people questioned his weight along with his level of competition.
