This is just silly. None of those guys are remotely near good enough to be the best player on a championship team. We need to find a franchise player. Even if we do end up packaging trade assets for a player, we shouldn't waste them on a Bridges, Brown level guy (note: Brown is not available, Bridges probably not either), let alone a roleplayer like Cam Johnson. Have you ever heard the term "opportunity cost", DD? You're trading away the possibility to use those assets on a real superstar #1 option in a future trade market for short term mediocrity. This is a seller's market. As of right now, there are no top 10 players available for trade. If that changes, we can revisit this. Right now, this is a terrible idea. Trust the process and keep going. Improve via free agency.
This is short sighted. This team is not ready to contend any time soon. If the Rockets identify Scoot, or Miller, or Amen as franchise building blocks, they should make sure they get their man. The 2024 #1 pick should be treated as a sunk cost. I want to use the capspace and resources and # 4 to get Scoot Henderson. To me, it seems unlikely that Charlotte would pick Henderson when they have a taller, young PG that can actually shoot 3's. It will have to be worth their while to take the risk of losing Miller. No other team can offer a better package for Henderson that the Rockets can. Adam Spolane mentioned a package where the Rockets would trade with Charlotte. The package- #4, #20 and taking back Gordon Heyward and their #2. I would throw in other players and/or draft assets if necessary. If Charlotte wants Miller at all costs, then the Trailblazers are another option. They don't need another small guard with their team as currently constructed.
I also like our core, but I don’t think we have anyone we can be sure is a franchise player the way that Paolo is for Orlando, or Mobley for Cleveland. Or the way Harden was for us when we traded for him. There’s a reasonable chance that none of our current core are franchise type guys. I know u hate scoot but hypothetically, if it was clear that he had a better chance to be an elite player than the the other guys on our roster, why wouldn’t we do everything we could to make him a rocket? Do u think Wemby is the only franchise player in this draft?
Eerily similar to a post I made yesterday .... The league is littered with hyper athletic guys who couldn't shoot that ended up draft busts. They already have their high potential low floor developing player in Green, I can't see room for another. I'd rather they pick a player who's closer to NBA ready than hoping to hit on pure potential OR just trade the pick for a veteran that impacts winning.
If you are drafting Walker or anyone at that position, what does that say about Jabari? (Not giving an opinion, just asking the question)
I'm pretty sure everything has been on the table for the right player despite whatever the organization says to the media.
I'd be drafting Walker to play alongside Jabari and have them cover the 4/5 and be able to switch when needed. The team desperately needs defense
The Rockets haven't really done a great job of picking the best franchise building blocks lately - that's just the truth. Evaluating draft picks is hard and requires luck. This current crew has been both unlucky and not particularly good so far.
Nah I want one more I’d go with one of the Thompson brothers and have them come off the bench his first season
I disagree with this. Jury is still out--you can't make these determinations until players have had at least 3 years in the league, if not more--but none of their picks inside the top 20 are looking like busts so far, they all look on track to be NBA starters, and several of them look like they at least have a chance at becoming all-star level players. The twenty-something picks are looking meh, but it's hard to find good players that late, and KJ Martin in the 2nd round compensates for it a bit. Most promising is that they've been able to find value just outside the lottery with Sengun and Eason. It's relatively easy to just follow consensus near the top of the draft and you'll get it right more often than not, but middle of the first round is more hit or miss. Having two hits so far is a good track record.
Yes I've had a million people tell me i don't know the ultimate fate of the 2021 and 22 drafts. They're correct but that's a throwaway observation at this point. What i do know is that - thus far - the Rockets did not only not get a franchise player at 2/3, they instead got guys who currently slot into ranges 5-10 in their respective drafts. Nothing we have seen so far makes this likely to change anytime soon. I don't really give a **** about drafting good value for the mid first round type role players like Eason and Sengun - having Himalayan Pink Salt is nice but there's no main course to use with it. The Rockets (or any) rebuild is all about stars. 3 years in and no stars.
I'd prefer for him to develop his full potential on the Rockets. If it were about winning now - Jokic.
What franchise players did other organizations get? We didn't have the opportunity to pick Cade or Banchero so don't say them.
Like i said, we didn't even get the best player at 2 or the best player at 3. You can't control missing a Banchero but passing up Mobley, Wagner etc for Green and overdrafting Smith were controllable and we failed.
Guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree because I don't think either of those guys (or anyone else in that class after Cade) are better than Green at this point. At most they're all in the same "unproven young players with all-star potential" category. As far as Jabari, saying he was an overdraft is just kind of a strange take since he was in the conversation for #1 through the entire process. Also way, way too early to tell, teenagers pretty much always suck playing in the NBA unless they're generational superstars (and sometimes even then).
