Really hope we get to see Kouba, Arrighetti, and Gordon in AAA later this season to see their savant data.
Jairo Solis was great last night. FB sat 95 and was up to 97. If he stays healthy he should be a really good prospect to track and could potentially even be called up this season. Seems like he would have a pretty high floor as a reliever (injury risk aside). https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/player-scroll/game?gamePk=721793&player_id=672810#power_sets Only allowed one hard hit ball and it was a grounder.
Solis' numbers to start off the year might not be pretty, but who cares. The fact that he got thrown into AAA 4.5 years since his last appearance is a testament to the work he's put in to get back to where he once was. Making it through this season without an extended IL stint should put him in consideration for a bullpen spot next year.
Corona appears to have all the tools (arm, speed) to be an elite defensive OF but the reviews on his defense has been mixed and that’s reflected by how much time he’s spent in the corners. Not sure if he gets bad reads/takes bad angles or what. Hopefully it’s something that can improve. I suppose it’s also possible that he’s just in RF/LF in deference to more important prospects.
The guy has to be close to minor league free agency right? This is his 7th season in the org. If he's not put on the 40-man/active roster by the end of the season he can probably just leave. It's kinda like Whitley (who is out of options next year), you just gotta bring 'em up and see if they're worth rostering next year.
Solis was on the 40-man last year, but was DFA'd and reassigned to pick up.....reads notes (i.e., googles)....Niko Goodrum.
Whitley, Bielak, and Paredes are all out of options after this season, so I’d expect them all to be used at some point this season and be shopped heavily at the deadline. Surprisingly, Taylor, Martinez, and Gage all will have another option year remaining after this season, as will Mushinski and Ronel Blanco. If Solis stays healthy I would bet heavily that he will be added to the 40 man or traded rather than let him reach free agency. Hell I don’t think they’d just expose him to free agency even if he gets hurt. Hard to believe a team like the A’s wouldn’t give up something to be able to stash him on the 40 man for 3 seasons.
Collin Price hit a walk-off 3-run homer to give Asheville a 5-3 win today. Miguel Palma went 3-4 with a couple of doubles and scored twice. Palma hasn't necessarily been trash so far in May, but those two doubles are his first extra-base hits this month. There is a little bit of Asheville Effect with him, but he's been competent enough on offense in the past to show that he probably isn't going to be a total Asheville mirage. Miguel Ullola: 4.1 IP, 3 H, unearned run (inherited runner charged to him), BB, 4 K Joey Mancini got the win in his High-A debut. 4 IP, 6 H, 2 R (1 ER), 5 K
