Why do we have to always follow the mock draft order. If the Rockets see a player that they want later in mocks they should resch and get him. They don't have to do what the mocks say. The team needs a PG. A real PG who can lead a team and play defense. Time to draft for need now.
There isn't one available in this draft class that would be starting caliber. So instead of reaching and picking a backup PG #4, it's better to take a guy at a different spot that MAYBE could start or just trade the pick.
I'm not super optimistic, but I do think 30%-33% is somewhat achievable. Teams might still dare him to shoot, but as long as he's around that, I think he's probably alright. Giddey, Murray, etc., are examples I guess, though I don't know if I trust our development team (Help Us Benny-Wan Sullivany, you're our only hope!). And Amen will have to put in a ton of (more) work into his shot to achieve that. At some point, it kinda is just muscle memory, so as long as he cleans up his mechanics a bit, maybe it can work (just sucks he didn't have these 2-3 years to build up that muscle memory already with a good shot). I admit to being a bit overly optimistic, but I'm basically just shooting for ceilings with our young guys. On a side-note, while I 100% agree that OTE competition sucks, I'm not sure it is as bad as some think, at least from a size/age standpoint. I get the impression people think Amen/Ausar were doing things against 6'2" 14 year old centers, but glancing at the list of players on various teams (and remembering what I saw in various highlights), I think a lot of the big men are...pretty big. Seems every team has at least a 6'11 guy (usually 17ish or older). Saw a 320lb big man on one team. I only found one 15 year old (only looked at 10-15 players at random), though there was a player with Age: N/A (haha). I think a lot of these big men are stiffs with not a ton of basketball talent, but they seem to have good size, strength, etc. So take that as you will. (I'm definitely drinking the Amen Kool-Aid, sorry)
KJ has regressed in 3 pt shooting every single year. Not sure that is the vote of confidence I needed.
36.5% (2.1 attempts/game; 96 total) 35.7% (2.1 attempts; 168) 31.5% (2.6 attempts; 216) “Kenyon Martin Jr. got worse as time has gone by but here’s why I’m encouraged John Lucas the miracle-quicker-fixer-upper can fix Thompson’s shooting.”
His jumper looks like the jumper of someone who'se never been coached and is just doing what he thinks looks right. The fundimental question is whether he has the willingness to accept coaching. I don't know how you really judge that without lots of time with him, and plenty of PI type background research. Is it broken because he's never been coached properly? Or is it broken because he thinks he's Westbrook and knows better than everybody else? It looks like you could fix a lot of what's wrong if he's willing to accept he needs coaching, and is willing to listen and work at it, but if that's the case, why hasnt he already done just that?
it's the big fast QB who can't throw argument with Josh Allen; just because he did it means every QB can
It's really a failure in education. I have seen it happen so it must be true. Giannis is alive so draft the skinny euro kids with fluid athleticism. Jimmy exists so draft the upper classman from that mid major. Xyz, fixed their shot, so shooting is a non-issue. ESPN told me so, therefore Amen is good.
Being a horrible shooter didn't stop Ben Simmons from being an all star and impact player . It was shrinking in the big moment, not really liking basketball and not having that drive that led him to being a fire dumpster. For Penny it was Tyra Banks, fool and those injuries. It can work... You just need Green, KPJ, Jabari and Alpi to increase their 3pt % by 6% as a unit. No pressure.
Stuck in repeat mode. Trying unplugging it and plugging it back in. @zeeshan2 Or maybe he really likes Amen? Did you know Giddey's form was a lot worse than Amen. He improved from 26% 3pt shooter to 32% shooter this year. He is getting better and better. Like OKC hired Chip Engelland, we need to hire a good shooting coach.Shooting is fixable. Lonzo is another example too.
damn @J.R. calling me out? I never had an agenda for any player; I am more of a post tweets and article kind of guy; I am just trying to get people to feel better about the 4th overall pick. If Miller or Scoot falls, even better. As far as Amen, I do have my concerns for sure with his shooting and his competition level. His shooting from the arc is putrid and also from the FT. I am pretty confident I could do better in those regards. Whitemore is growing on me though
