NIMBY exists thank you WSJ for showing they. I suppose they also reported in all the property owners who were against fracking and the Keystone pipeline.

It’s a good thing people like myself are working on building solar and even wind into buildings such as in roofs and even windows.
    https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2022/09/transparent-solar-panel-windows/

Also greatly increasing energy efficiency in new construction.

As a physicist, what do you think about Heisenberg and von Braun?

Seriously, what do you mean? :D I feel like I'm missing a meme here.

von Braun is one of the most fascinating characters of the 20th century, if you ask me, and he may be as responsible as any other human being for the successful Apollo missions. He was a genius technical leader, a communications savant, and also (as a young man) an officer in the SS who recruited V2-rocket-building slave labor from concentration camps.

Heisenberg also fascinating, brilliant. Did he sandbag the German effort to build an atomic weapon with intentional errors? Who will ever know.

Anyway, I can recommend fairly readable books about both these dudes!

Only reason I asked is because I am close friends with the grandson of one and the nephew of the other (who was actually in the control room when the moon landing happened).

Technology is improving all the time. We will get to a point where rooftop solar on a house will be able to power it's energy needs and the batteries and panels will be made from readily available materials such a silicon. The answer is distributed energy, not massive farms.

Today the EPA put out the toughest pollution curbs from power plants that we've ever had in this nation.

    Much much needed

The conservatives new climate change attack is mirroring the gun control debate….

“Well it won’t fully solve the problem.”

I remember that now -- we've had this exchange before, at least for Heisenberg. I hope my answer was even remotely the same as last time, haha.

And yet throwing up some panels on your roof can cover all your household's electricity needs, including charging that EV battery.

Fascism is about absolutes but Heisenberg was one of the scientists who showed that at the quantum level there are no absolutes. It’s an interesting philosophical issue of how the Nazi regime upheld and science and considered itself to be a a rational regime.

Never been a fan of mixing philosophy with physics - as you can easily do the reverse - and it has no real meaning. To me it's more dangerous than useful

You can make the argument that physics is quiet fascist. Any "anti-" particle is annihilated - never allowed to exist in our perfect universe. It cleans out the undesirable particle - and the universe is ruled by sacred laws that all must obey. And certain color quarks may only combine with certain other colors. Just like races. Or that only a man and a woman can form stable relationships - just like charged particles.

Promises of clean coal turned into half-clean coal.

From the same folks behind boosting the recycling industry during the 1970s...

We are going to need a multitude of solutions from renewable energy (solar farms and roof top), nuclear energy to less emitting fuel fossils plants, carbon capture, better stewardship of forests, wetlands, etc.
