Maybe the front office can turn it around with some decent signings but right now I'm just gutted. I knew we didn't have much of a chance at #1 but finishing outside the top 3 was like..not ideal
There no turning this around the best course of action is being in NBA purgatory for a few years until we're done owning OKC our picks then going through another rebuild.. we might have to trade Jalen Green or let him walk.
My opinion is a little different in that I think Green really could be a star in this league, and I was looking forward to pairing him with Wemby. Amen Thompson + Green seems...I dunno. Is that a weird fit?
Green will want out in a few years, we will not be able to keep him, not getting the #1 pick sealed this franchise fate it's over for the rockets. Ime is gone in two years top, we should start preying for lebron's second son.
Shouldn't be surprising, guards who can't shoot aren't very valuable, just ask Jalen Suggs....and he's probably better than any of the guards in this class.
Not the biggest Brandon Miller fan either, the guy has a good jumper and decent enough defense but he simply lacks the burst and speed to get past college guys, looks like a shorter Jabari Smith but with less defense and slightly better finishing.
I was thinking the same thing. I’m not losing sleep over Miller. He’s a year older than Jabari as well.
I just wonder how Scoot and Lamelo will fit. Scoot is more of need the ball guy to really maximize himself and Lamelo is the same way. Miller and Scoot rated about the same as prospects maybe? They are close. Miller is a much better fit for them.
Same problem in Portland (unless they're trading Dame and committing to a rebuild). They have Dame, Anfernee, plus Shaedon Sharpe up and coming as well. I would think Portland might seek to trade the pick, especially if Miller is off the board, but I don't know if we have the package that would satisfy them. We aren't exactly brimming with players who are ready to help a team wanting to contend right away.
There is also a chance they just trade Dame too any time before the draft. This could also motivate them to do it. Draft Scoot, trade Dame for a bunch of future picks, and just start their rebuild in earnest. I think Scoot fits better with Dame though if they keep them both, Dame can play off guard perfect fine and really Dame isn't even really that good of a playmaker. Honestly I'm fine with Amen if thats who we are stuck with. Yeah, shooting issues, but I like his size and athleticism but really I'm not seeing anyone with higher upside than him past 4.
I I feel the same way. If the 1st three are Wemby, Miller and Scoot in some order I'm down with rolling to a big AMEN!!! lol Matter of fact I could see AT making it into the top 3 by the actual draft. He just has unreal athleticism and teams are more and more willing to bet on elite traits they can teach skills to! Plus there's one thing he would bring that this team sorely needs and that's BALL HANDLING! Jalen has a subpar handle. Jabari has an EXTREMELY subpar handle! A team needs to be able to shoot and pass but it also needs to be able to dribble! KPJ has the best handle on the team atm but he doesn't really have an affinity towards passing. He can do it but doesn't really like to naturally. Amen has the height AND the handle to get to different spots on the court and set up his teammates and get everyone involved in the offense. We could do much worse than Amen!
I have it on good authority the NBA lottery is rigged. Houston was guaranteed multiple picks between 2-4 but no 1st overall pick Detroit was guaranteed one 1st overall but their other picks would be outside the top 5 Same with Orlando one #1 pick but could not pick in the top 5 again. Spurs will not be picking in the top 5 again. Houston - 2,3,4 Orlando - 1,5,6 Detroit - 1,5,5
We don't know for sure we won't have a single star player, but your point is a very good one. This is why tanking is risky and FAR from an obvious strategy. This is why superstars like Harden, as washed up as he is, are so rare and should be signed at almost whatever cost. i.e. if Harden wants to come back, Houston HAS TO SIGN HIM
We actually had really good luck, we had about a 13% chance of getting top 4 three years in a row, we had an almost 50% chance of losing the Green pick to OKC. Overall, it was a successful 3 year tank. We are set up nicely to compete.
