Now that Chas is back i'd go with him, would have been going with Pena...actually I would have been going Tucker, Pena, Yordan top 3 but we know that ain't happening
No doubt...but he refuses to take any pitches too. The guy has been MUCH better this year, and will be an ideal utility guy when Altuve gets back

To me though, he is just the anti-leadoff guy.
He started out horribly but has been one of the hotest hitters in AAA more recently

Until I see Maldonado actually being replaced I won't believe it. I think I have Maldy PTSD at this point.

If you can't count on Brantley then Julks is the obvious roster spot to improve. Charlie Blackmon would interest me if the Rockies ever stop acting like total idiots and make some trades.

I've been wanting Perez on this team for years. I'd imagine all packages would start with Korey Lee or Colin Barber. Not as big of a Barlow fan though. I would rather have Chapman so Dusty gets his lefty and plus it would be awesome to see him shut down the Yankees in the playoffs :)

Houston can withstand. They are playoff proven. Just get in the dance and let the cream rise.

I mean- my white whale I'm chasing is Dusty actually hitting our best hitter 2nd, but if that absolutely can't happen (narrator voice- it won't) then that is a very very nice lineup. I might go (stipulating something in the realm of possible to happen):
Altuve/Pena/Yordan/Bregman/Tucker/McCormick/Abreu/Diaz/Meyers instead. Really I'd have Tucker 4th and Bregman 5th- but can't imagine that actually happening once Altuve is back. He's going to split the lefties again and move Tucker back down I bet.

Yep. Besides for the catchers and Hensley, Dubon is the worst leadoff option for the Astros IMO. A case could be made for Dubon over Meyers or that Chas may not be 100%, but I'd go with Meyers or Chas if those two are healthy.

Thing about Bregman is if you look at all his quality of contact stuff his expected **** is right in line with his numbers every year. It's probably almost completely 100% luck driven with him and should turn around any minute. He's been one of the 10 unluckiest guys in the league. Abreu has no such similar reason to be optimistic taking a peak under the hood.
All that said- yes- I'd trade for Perez in a heartbeat.

If the problem is at 1st & 3rd why are we talking about going after a catcher? With Maldy, Diaz and Lee adding a catcher is very low on my list. We do not have prospects to trade but everybody thinks it will take prospects to make a trade. We have starters to trade. Center fielders to burn, A right fielder that we cannot re sign. A versatile bench player that would make somebody a viable starter at second, McCullers, the afore mentioned first and third basemen along with a couple of highly ranked prospects we have no use for like Leon and Corona. Sure Abreu and Bregman could come around but do you really want to move forward with either knowing they are very likely to repeat and extend these unproductive periods. Address the problems you have.

Kansas City would not be interested in any of the people that you mentioned- they don't fit any window that makes sense for them. You'd have to get a 3rd team involved to convert to prospects to send to KC and once that happens you get too complicated to make a deal in all likelihood.

I am missing something. What does KC have that we want?

I'm not even sure what you're suggesting here other than trade all of our underperforming/injured starters and prospects for better players and one of our top 2 best offensive players for presumably a worse offensive player?

The Astros basically have to keep running Bregman and Abreu out there in the hopes that they rally. Both guys are way underwater on their current/remaining contract years. But there's ample evidence to suggest they're playing well below their talent level and will positively regress. No sense in selling low here.

Catcher is a unique situation where we could significantly cut Maldy's playing time and no one would give a **** about it (unlike with Y Diaz and Korey Lee).

Salvador Perez is the main guy I want from the Royals. For me, I don't see it as giving up on Diaz (although he is definitely still unproven), but rather, the opportunity to add a proven two-way catcher who is one of the game's smartest and hardest-working players, and still in his prime.
I don't think they'd want Lee. I can see them taking Diaz if they are high on his bat, and alternating him and Melendez between catching and corner outfield. Luis Garcia, if they are willing to bet on him recovering, is another piece I can see them wanting since he does have a history of some success. He won't help us this year, but, say he returns halfway through next year, they get him for two and a half years, and they need pitching.

Diaz yes for them. Garcia no- 2.5 years isn't enough time to fit their window. They are really bad. They need guys in the minors or in their first year of service time. A guy that's already in his 3rd year of service time just doesn't fit the next winning team up there imo. It's at least 2, but probably 3 years before they are looking to compete for a playoff spot.

Cutting Maldies playing time does nothing to improve the team. The problems that need solving are at corner infielder.

The Astros need corner infielders. Is Perez any good at 1st or 3rd ?

Chapman on this team would be almost as terrible as Trever Bauer.

Man would I hate this team for the first time ever after 45 years of fandom. For about 24 hours before I decide I can't live without my team.
