Meyers might have gotten to it without having to slide, so it wouldn't have looked impressive. Peoples "eyes" told them Derek Jeter was an elite SS and Adam Everett was just OK.

Not that Chaz is a bad OF by any means, he's really good too, but fans get far too caught up in sliding catches and jump throws. People use the metrics for a reason, and Meyers are really, really good. At this point both guys should start almost everyday until Brantley comes back or we add a guy via trade.

    Nomar
Nomar Garciaparra was better than Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

Jeter and ARod most likely on Steroids

At this point I would say that Chas is the better fielder. I don’t see Meyers getting to balls that Chas can’t get to. Meyers gets a good jump but Chas got a great jump on that ball today. To imply that meyers grabs that standing up is silly.

Today's win and Angels loss has Astros in 2nd place in the division

Shouldn't fall any lower if we learn to win at home again

With both healthy I'd upgrade the Outfield D and play both. I love Yordan's arm in left but the range/speed of a Chas/Meyers/Tucker outfield is pretty good.

Chas and Meyers both play a quality CF... neither is in there solely for defense, and neither comes close to the truly elite outfielders we've seen here in prior years... but both have a pretty set role as far as being utilized (and hopefully just keeping the spot warm for whenever Gilbert is truly ready).

For time and distance having to run (both 4.3 seconds and 68 feet, but in different directions), this is the closest I can find for Meyers in the past two years.

    Meyers had to dive.

It wasn't the hardest catch in the world, but it is not deserving of the Jeter comp.

Can we just be happy that he caught the ball?

I'm very happy he caught the ball. I'm not happy using his good catch as a reason to s**t on Meyers outstanding defensive ability.

In terms of DRS and and OAA, Chaz and Meyers have been as good or better than every OF we've seen over the last decade plus except Marisnick. Both of them are putting up extremely good defensive numbers. The real problem is that only one of them can play CF and defensive numbers are nerfed in LF at MMP. Either guy could be a viable long term starter, probably not both.

I think except when Alvarez plays LF, Meyers should be in CF and Chas in LF. It will nerf Chas's defensive numbers, but is best for the team until Brantley comes back (fingers crossed). I think both are likely better hitters than Julks at this point and tons better defensively even with the Crawford Boxes.

I appreciate the notoriety, but with the Sox trying to lose and the Astros doing whatever they can to win, its gotta be a 5-0 sweep lol

They are working with him on pitch selection.

The hitting coach gave him a compliment, said that he can hit anything but too often hits a pitchers pitch - so they are trying to get him to actually take some strikes.

Yeah, he has a lot of power, and it is still developing. If he gets more selective, he could be an all star because of his bat.

I love Chas and he is a perfectly good centerfielder and corner outfielder. Definitely above average.

However Meyers is special. My eyes and the stats confirm that he is top 5 in all of baseball, gold glove calibur.

I think until ( unless?) Brantley returns they are both needed and should both play 75% of the time. Frequently together.

Once Brantley returns or Dirden or Gilbert are ready, then one of them should be traded.

Julks is a AAAA player who has done well, but keeping a better player on the bench.
