Thanks for the feedback. Hear you loud and clear on the advanced stat stuff. We aren’t going to argue for the sake of argument, but we can look for some places we have contrasts and sharpen that… Had literally almost the exact same conversation with someone today. Thanks for listening!
Our 4the episode and best one yet imo. We got it down to 54 minutes so it’s more manageable as a listen. We had fun with this talking about what we hate (mostly Andrew) and what we love (mostly me) about this years version of the Astros. Believe it or not I’m the more positive one. I love this team and think they are pretty good. please- give it a listen and subscribe. All feedback appreciated and welcomed. If your goal for the podcast is to entertain a lot of people or to make money, you need to get it down to less than 20 minutes per episode until you’ve established a following. The vast majority of people (myself included) see an hour run time and move along.
Thanks for the feedback. We won’t be everything to everyone. I don’t know how we could go less than 20 as a weekly thing and enjoy what we are doing. Maybe if it’s an issue like that it should be a more frequent thing. our goals are to have fun (so far we are), do something we are proud of (not there yet but working in the right direction) and do something that people like. We have had some really positive (and also constructive feedback) so far and are trying to find our legs. we are averaging 40 listeners an episode right now which might not sound like a lot, but the median podcast gets 27 listens per episode. If we get to 100 or 200 people that like it I will be thrilled. 1000 listeners would put us in the top 10% of podcasts and be beyond my wildest hopes. We aren’t ever going to have bough followers or listeners to make it worth while for a product to advertise with us. If we develop 1000 people someday who will listen we might make a Buck on a prosfessional service sponsor (realtor- insurance agent- something like that). That’s so far down the road as to be exceedingly unlikely. To whoever said my sound quality sucked we are going to try a different format next week and then maybe buy a mic if that doesn’t work better. I’m a tech idiot so… working through stuff.
I think I agree with this, anything over 30ish mins is tough for me to pay attention to. Good podcast either way @Wulaw Horn
Approaching the 1/4 mark above .500 at 19-18 despite: Not having Altuve, Brantley, or McCullers at all yet this season. Losing 2 other SP to injuries and having to move guys up from AAA to replace them. Biggest FA signings Abreu and Montero have been very bad so far. Playing one of the toughest schedules in MLB so far. I'm not sure how the season will turn out but so far they are weathering it.
Recipe for a successful World Series run: At least 3 pitchers in the top 33% of all SP. At least 1 more in the top 60% At least 3 pitchers in the top 20% of all RP At least 3 more in the top 50% At least 2 hitters at 125+ OPS+ At least 3 more hitters 110 OPS+ NO more than 1 of 11 most used hitters <90 OPS+ No poor defenders in up the middle positions. No more than 1 really poor defender in corner defensive positions What am I missing?
You need 8 good to excellent arms. You need 6 above average to excellent bats. of you have any less than that, imo, you need someone to get insanely hot like MadBum pitching or like Carlos Beltran.
Y'all are crazy with your short attention span. Almost all the podcasts I listen to regularly average about an hour each.
Yeah/ Simmons and Russillo go 2 hours all the time and never under an hour. I’m not comparing myself to them or anything but a 20 minute podcast seems crazy short to me. Shrugs. Each to his own.
Welcome to the “Wulaw’s podcast” thread Most podcasts may be an hour or longer, but those are mostly done by professionals who have some kind of hook: either they’re already famous, they have famous guests on, or they are serializing something in a digestible format. Wulaw and his buddy are slightly-more-than-casual Astros fans with no podcasting experience and seemingly no organized format. An hour is too long if you’re trying to lure people in who have no idea what you’re about. But it seems like Wulaw doesn’t care, which is fine if the point is to have fun, but then why constantly pimp it on message boards.
Sorry man. I didn’t say I wasn’t interested in anyone listening nor anything else. Like I said, thanks for the input. I’m sharing it with people I thought might like it, same way people post articles that they think people might like or what have you. I also wouldn’t say, as a member of this community for 5 years and the other one for 20+ that people have no idea what I’m about. I Like reading your stuff. I’d listen to you on a podcast. There are actually even a couple people who feel the same way about me so I post here when we publish. That’s it. not trying to monetize. Not trying to irritate. Creating something and having fun and trying to share it in a place with others who might enjoy it. If that’s not you then fine. I literally do listen to all feedback. I can’t see us ever doing a 20 minute pod on a weekly basis. If that’s what’s required for you to listen then I suppose it won’t happen. Such is life. Still enjoying the creative process and it brings me happiness to know that there are a growing number of people (not many) who are enjoying it and following. I’ve actually had feedback from 6 different strangers and a buddy I hadn’t talked to in 10 years that said they enjoyed it. That’s why I’m “pimping it” on message boards.
Are you pulling this out of thin air or is there some method to the madness here on those numbers? I think I agree with all the stuff with the exception of 3 relievers between 20-50. Of you already have 3 relievers in the top 20 3 more that are top 50 seem like overkill/more than you need with 4 quality ish starters. the offense seems dead bang on. I might even have one of the 2 you had at 125+ be 150+
Just break the podcast down by subject, not guest. Each guest can be 5-7 parts as the subject changes.
Thanks. I did indeed simply put this idea together just out of my own fancy I certainly don't claim to have any kind of experience or knowledge outside of fandom and interest. As for the " 3 additional RP in top 50%" a team has 8 RP on a roster / 240 total in the league. I think it would make sense that 6 of a WS contenders RP are among the top 120 in the league.
Depends, are we talking cause or affect. WS champions typically have good players and plenty of them, so that might fit a profile somewhere, but how many big post season moments did Stanek, for example, have for us last year? How about Martinez? They were relievers 5 and 6 and they fit the profile you laid out but I’d say they didn’t really have anything to do with us winning the World Series per se, in a playoff sense anyway. People were complaining that Stanek never got in last year more than anything else about the entire run as I sort of recall. So, I don’t think that’s necessary even if it is pretty often the case. Think of KC when they had their run. 3 great back of the bullpen guys. Probably one more really good. And a starter to go 4 or 5. That’s all they needed to drive their success as I recall. I think that’s probably sufficient. min Astros terms it was Lidge, Dotel then Wagner and that formula worked just fine. That was a championship quality unit.
