I won't argue the point on KJM as he does have his limitations, particularly defensively and his shooting declined from the year prior as well .... (the whole team shot poorly which has me perplexed considering the volume of open shots they got but that's a topic for another discussion) That said, I'd prefer to have a full size replacement if you want to ship Martin out as an asset. No more 6'3 - 6'4 guys playing the 3-4.
I would for sure rather have FVV running our team than KPJ, but dude is so overrated and flawed and would cost so much that it would be a foolish decision to target him we can’t go another year with KPJ at point tho because you’re just throwing away another season before it even begins so I hope and pray we solve the PG issue this offseason
You don't have the NT-MLE if you operate under the cap and use cap space, you instead have the room exception which is about half the value. MLE is for over the cap teams only. (either version)
I rather roll the die on ime doing something to improve our offense with kpj than wasting money on fvv. Potentially overpaying for marginal improvement at the pg position ain't worth it. Money best spent elsewhere. If we wasting money might as well take a gamble on reaves.
Harden is only coming if we land Wemby. That's the only scenario that makes sense. All the other top 4 draft picks need the ball in their hands so I doubt the Rockets themselves would be interested. But if somehow land the #1 spot, it's going to be a fun off-season.
Harden-Wemby and Harden-Miller make perfect sense Miller isn’t good enough to need the ball in his hands a lot, he’s not a big time primary creator Not sure who else is in your top 4? Amen Thompson? The man can’t shoot, so him having the ball in his hands all the time trying to figure things out will be rough
I think these are excellent points. I just took a look at his playoff numbers and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I think his career numbers are pretty good, but there’s no denying he had a very down year last year, and those playoff numbers are bad. Interesting that Harden is a career 34% 3pt shooter in the playoffs. I still think FVV is a very good player. Folks aren’t acknowledging how good of a defensive player he is; we really need that. Take away this past year and his shooting efficiency is very good. I think of him as a clutch player, but those playoff numbers say different. There is, of course, no debate about Harden being better. Where the salary and years end up for both players makes a difference though.
I think Amen makes some sense playing behind Harden. Ideally you'd trade KPJ away and let Amen take the 6th man role off the bench, so he has a chance to be a primary ballhandler a lot without playing starter's minutes. That's his ultimate role in the NBA.
This! Plus another main factor is FVV championship experience that can’t be underestimated Harden might not like Ime accountability he’s already been running over Doc doubt Harden really wants to play for Ime coaching style Ime might not want to coach James who knows ??
Then you're saying Harden somehow already knows Wemby can contribute right away and won't waste time needing to develop much?
Wemby is viewed widely by many as the best prospect since Lebron. If he can't contribute right away he will be seen as a bust. We will have had the #1, #2, and #3 picks in the past 3 years. That should be enough to entice any players, theoretically, to play with the core. The blueprint is already there to compete, eerily similar to Lebron returning to the Cavs after they loaded up on young talent.
I don’t think this past year affected his shooting efficiency much…before this year he averaged 19, 4, and 6 on 40/38/87 splits and below average TS% since he’d been a starter his finishing at the rim has always been atrocious because he’s so small…worse than Harden these past 2 seasons post-hamstring injuries he does bring some smarts, defense, and decent playmaking, but he looks like the type of guy who could fall off a cliff at any moment we’ll have to see what the numbers and years offered to Harden ultimately are…as for FVV, this is what a Raptors guy said in January "In terms of what VanVleet will be looking for on the open market, the four-year, $130 million deal that Tyler Herro got last fall is expected to be the baseline. Officially, the Raptors don’t have to decide whether they’re going to be the team that gives it to him until July. Essentially, though, they’ve got to make that decision over the next five weeks, ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, or they risk losing him for nothing." maybe a team like the Rockets will have to overpay to acquire him, but my expectations on a FVV deal are 4 years at between 33-35 mil/yr
which is why I’m not that excited about Thompson…a primary creator with a broken jump shot Is he known to have a lot of feel for the game?
Yes, he has phenomenal court vision and I've seen a lot of people call him the best passer/playmaker in the class. He's also great at finding lanes to the basket on the rare occasions OTE does find itself in a half-court set, and he has a great feel for finishing around the rim (beyond the obvious dunks). He has work to do on defensive consistency but has flashed fantastic on-ball defense. He is an upside play... raw, bad competition, no jump shot. But it actually might be good for him to develop as a bench player under Harden for a couple years before he steps in as the primary creator, assuming he does manage to reach his potential, which you have to hope will be the case if you pick him. The idea behind him is something like a jumbo-sized De'Aaron Fox with even better overall athleticism.
https://sports.yahoo.com/james-hard...p-these-nba-playoffs-perfectly-183219240.html Harden’s name and other potential summer targets were often mentioned during Houston’s interview process with head coaching candidates that led to the Rockets landing Ime Udoka, league sources told Yahoo Sports. There are too many NBA figures, from those based in Houston to those who’ve overlapped with Harden throughout his 14-year career, who speak of his possible reunion with the Rockets franchise as a foregone conclusion. And then there are those who think it’s all leverage to hold over the Sixers’ decision-makers. Harden’s purported interest in rejoining Houston first surfaced when he was still part of Brooklyn’s Big Three with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, with Nets officials growing keen on his wandering eye for Philadelphia as much as the speculation he could one day push for a return to Texas.
I just can’t get on the Thompson train right now…if we end up with the 4th pick or whatever and take him then fine, but I’d also be fine with them trading the pick
