Because nothing else has come close to working. Until our laws and policies actually come close to the supply and demand curve for immigration there always will be illegal
    Immigration.

sounds like Biden may revive some Trump policies

U.S. Is Said to Consider Reinstating Detention of Migrant Families
President Biden has turned to increasingly restrictive measures as his administration prepares for the end of Title 42, which has allowed border authorities to swiftly expel migrants.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/06/...mily-detention.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytimes

    excerpt:

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration is considering reviving the practice of detaining migrant families who cross the border illegally — the same policy the president shut down over the past two years because he wanted a more humane immigration system, officials familiar with the discussions said Monday.

Although no final decision has been made, the move would be a stark reversal for President Biden, who came into office promising to adopt a more compassionate approach to the border after the harsh policies of his predecessor, former President Donald J. Trump.

The Biden administration has largely ended the practice of family detention, instead releasing families into the United States temporarily and using ankle bracelets, traceable cellphones or other methods to keep track of them.

But the administration has turned to more restrictive measures as it struggles to handle a rise in migrants fleeing authoritarian governments and economic ruin in their countries. Officials also fear a surge at the border after May 11, when a public health measure that has allowed authorities to swiftly expel migrants expires.

Mr. Biden’s tough new measures, including a crackdown announced last month that could disqualify a vast majority of migrants from being able to seek asylum at the southern border, have infuriated advocates who say the president is breaking campaign promises and embracing a Trump-era approach to immigration.

Not covered enough is the fact that Congress passed and reauthorized with even stronger language in the 90's a lot of immigration law with "shall detain" language. The issue is over the last 25+ years, Congress has never funded the laws enough to for it to be enforced, leading the courts to begrudgingly defer to the executive branch much discretion used in release policies for different programs. Yes, the article mentions the benefits of releasing vs detaining, but you know, it's the law. Change the law, don't blame the president for actually enforcing it.

NY’s new Times Square migrant shelter was home to busiest US McDonald’s

    https://nypost.com/2023/03/13/nys-new-times-square-migrant-shelter-was-home-to-busiest-us-mcdonalds/

    excerpt:

City Councilman Robert Holden (D-Queens) expressed outrage over Mayor Eric Adams’ latest solution to the migrant crisis.

“We’re now going to house them in retail spaces, commercial spaces,” he fumed. “Where does it end and when does the taxpayer get a break here?”

Holden added: “This is a problem that the Biden administration created and the government should foot the bill and have a plan to feed and house them.”

The first step is to regain operational control of the border crossings.

Well we could spend billions helping the countries south of the Border develop and spread their wealth around, instead of supporting their oligarchs and militarizing the border for the political advantage of the GOP.

The US brought all this upon themselves from a century long infringement on South Americans and their basic sovereignty and agency to form their own governments independent of American commerce.

America trading with countries is blamed for poverty in those countries. America not trading with countries is blamed for poverty in those countries. Maybe it isn't trading or not trading with America that is causing poverty at all.

Everyone has been talking about it yet no one does anything. This is not a left or right issue per say, every administration has kicked the can down the road, the US needs immigrants, dam we have 10 year olds working at processing plants in Nebraska and Iowa, the question is how many and how do we vet them so we know there not the evil folks that fox keeps telling us they are. Biden has done some awesome things, this is not one of them, but maybe I am asking too much to fix this issue, its very complicated and then both sides have to blame the other side when in reality its an issue to everyone.

Just because title 42 is expiring doesn't mean anyone is allowed in the country. It's just sad how utterly brainwashed you are @Commodore

Because people are damn stupid and don't know the rules. If you do not apply in Mexico on the app or at a processing center you will be deported right away. There are no exceptions except very few rare cases. There will be no holding at detention centers.

They're being deported before any immigration hearings. Bidens new immigration policy is literally worst than title 42. People are just effin brainwashed. There are NO exceptions for venezulans Cubans or others. It's blanket wide ban.
