I do get a small chuckle of the idea you may help fund this if passed in CA...

Shut the fck up and read what he’s saying for once. You’re not the bastion of sympathy, you’re just the loudest r****d in here. There should be a minimum reading skill level requirement for the D&D

I personally am disgusted at the dehumanization of bussing people around like goods in shipping car. Desantis is a POS for doing so

I think Kim agrees and was saying if there are ways to help these people become legal citizens by means of opening Jobs for them in less desirable areas we should help them become legal and find the better life they are looking for. Given your short comings i doubt you’ll make it to the end of this post before having another attack. You derail every discussion spazzing out so please take your damn meds and read. I like your takes in the NBA forum so putting you on ignore to help sift through this isn’t something I’m keen on

I’ll pray for you bro., this is what I mean. You can’t even focus your fake sincerity to the oppressed you feigned sympathy towards. It has to turn into this derailment.

I'll pray for all the transgender people who get harassed far more often now than ten years ago because of the type of rhetoric you spam.

I don’t know how many times it has to be said but the solutions are pretty obvious.
a deal to greatly expand legal immigration, give a path to citizenship to those who are there in exchange for much more border security.

While there are those on the left who don’t like the idea of increased border security there are far more on the right who use the issue of our streets being overrun by illegals and Replacement Theory.

On a personal aside I now want to start a Replacements cover band called “White Replacement Theory” with no one in the band actually white.

    somewhat small derail:

@rocketsjudoka, this has always been the playbook. Gridlock or a federal government that can't function is a desired outcome. It has led to what we have today: a lack of trust in our institutions to do anything for citizens, low voter turnout due to the lack of outcomes for years, and this, in turn, has led to horrible candidates such as Trump winning the presidency. We should strive for change, fast change. Fail quickly and overcome those failures. Yes, we will swing widely for a while, but I believe that as long as voters have the final say, we will eventually reach a good equilibrium and a much happier citizenry once we see how fast the government can react and do good and how fast we can kick them out if they don't.

Immigration reforms can't happen because of this gridlock.

The founders actually did want gridlock so yes that has been the plan. We’ve seen what lifting the filibuster on judges has done and I doubt many Democrats like that result. Now imagine if we didn’t have the filibuster from 2017-2019 might’ve been liked. Republican majorities of House and Senate with a Republican president is still possible in 2025.

The Founders' system of checks and balances is not gridlock. The filibuster was never an idea of the founding feathers. It was a creation of the Senate (by a mere mistake). If it was an intention of the founding father, the Senate can't simply change it's rule by a simple majority vote and get rid of the filibuster.

    https://www.brookings.edu/testimonies/the-history-of-the-filibuster/

As I previously mentioned, there will be wide swings in policy, but as long as the voters have the ultimate voice, the system will eventually reach an equilibrium. Mistakes can be corrected, the court can be reformed, and laws can be made and reversed quickly. You often bring up the Court and how we would not like the result without the filibuster, but that's the whole point. We can try things, and if we don't like the outcome, we can correct it. Short-term fears is paralyzing progress for the future.

Looking out, there is something that is even more important. The world is changing at an ever accelerated rate. AI will push that change to an enormous rate. Our government is not anywhere close equipped to handle this change and will be left behind as compared to those that can adapt and change nimbly and quickly.

    I think it's BS.

Area's like Florida get so much money from the feds to handle immigration issues - while a place like Chicago gets screwed in both federal and state dollars to deal with any of their problems. Dumping illegal immigrants into urban areas is not only unfair, it's stupid. They already have a housing problem. They should be kept in places where the money and resources exist.

There are multiple things true at the same time. Texas is choosing not to work with the federal government at all in trying to implement immigration policy other than transporting migrants to CBP agents. Then CBP either deports or releases them, lol. It's a lot of wasted money. That stated, even when there are Republican presidents, there still isn't enough money to build federal housing units for a certain portion of migrants (required by law passed and reinforced by Congress in the 80's and 90's), let alone money to help integrate migrants from soup to nuts or whatever that saying is. The system relies heavily on the support of overworked non-profits.

Currently, there is no space for the overflow in border communities. Now, Texas could choose to spend their money on immigration infrastructure and support, but the party that runs Texas doesn't want to do that and that's their choice. In an ideal world, the feds would disperse border migrants to places in the US that need the labor the most, or at least more evenly. Set aside the jingoism, racism, and ethnocenticism...not saying it's not important, but political boundaries are important too. And if the state government of Texas doesn't want to supplement the lack of immigration resources, but instead wants to transport to CBP and or bus away, then that's federalism at work.

As the original video in this thread shows, it's not an easy topic. It's easier to say what should be done when the problem is small or far away, but when immigrants are brought to their doors, Chicago residents are pissed. I'm seeing videos like this from all over local news around the country where migrants are being dropped off. The communities don't want them, except for the rich Martha's Vinyard exception last year, and it's not like those migrants were allowed to stay there. It kind of reminds me of the Jewish people on that giant ship trying to escape Hitler and the US and most of world turning them away. Different situations, but similar sentiments. Hawaii is sending American homeless people back to the mainland - different, but similar.
