What kind of groveling would they have to do to get CP3 to not just retire immediately? He'd be a great fit as a mentor and coach on the floor but we kinda did him dirty.
Drafting this guy will completely change our franchise but somehow I got a feeling it's already rigged for the Spurs.
It’s really asinine to think the NBA would fix it for the Spurs. The Spurs being in the finals is their worst nightmare. I think the whole fixed thing is outdated, it would take way too many people to conspire including accounting firms that could lose it all like Anderson Consulting did with Enron.
Man I could not have disagreed with this Spolane guy more. Harden/Green is not a good backcourt. He thinks Sengun/Jabari/MillEr/Green/harden is a good starting rotation? That’s a terrible rotation. That’s the worst defensive starting 5 in the nba. If we run that roster out there we are in big trouble.
I use to because of the foreign connection but I just don’t see it. If anything they will rig it for Houston Pop is on the way out and I doubt they want a international generational player on a dying team vs Houston with now Ime and a team loaded with talent ready to make the west even more competitive Like I told my roommate who’s a die hard fan though if Spurs don’t get Wemby the team will be relocated within 10 years lol
I would take but he didn’t seem that high on Sengun being a starter. He seems to want KPJ, Tari, Sengun running the bench if Harden comes back After so many years of small ball I would love to have two 6’9/6’10 forwards who can defend and shoot lights out. That’s a wet dream to me. Scoot being 6’2 could make him the shortest guard in the league in 5 years. Even KD says the league in 10 years will be nothing but 6’7+ at every position
Yeah he kind of did us dirty too, he was in much better shape before and after Houston. I think new management, coach and direction could help. If I had to bet though I think he'll find his way onto a contender. I don't know how realistic it is for someone to give up on contending like that.
he’s going to be in the Stockton, Kidd, Steve Nash club. HOF player; one of the best point guards ever…..no ring.
I don't follow Spolane much (especially his opinions, his reporting seems good?), but yeah I disagreed with a lot of what he said. Also seemed to lack the knowledge of some things I'd think he'd know, but that was mostly super nitpicky things. FWIW, while Scoot is 6'2, he has a 6'9 wingspan, huge hands, and also pretty solid frame (10-30lbs bigger than JG depending on what numbers you believe, even after JG's had 2 years to bulk up in the NBA). I'm not worried about his size frankly, and if anything staying low during drives might be beneficial (vs having a taller guard). If Rockets drafted him, I think it might even make sense for him to guard the bigger guard, while JG takes the PG. I will say I'm pretty high on Scoot, and I don't know what Kris/Spo are talking about with some of their opinions, but to be fair, it sounds like they haven't really looked into him much (though Kris mentioned Vecenie, which is mostly where I get some of my thoughts on Scoot). I'm not as big on Miller for some reason. Maybe because contrary to what they said, I think getting a wing is easier, especially this summer when you have like 3-4 decent options and barely any good PG options (especially if you exclude Harden). Based on what Vecenie has said, I'd be tempted to take Cam Whitmore over Miller, though I'm still looking into all the guys (probably seen the least on Miller to be fair). I like Hendricks quite a bit as well, though I'd be tempted to trade down if possible for that pick. I will say I'm not opposed to keeping the offseason fairly simple. That might even include trying KPJ again at PG, though only if most other PG options fall through.
Next year sure. 30-33 wins is our likely outcome in many positive scenarios. We keep the Brooklyn assets and put 4 players in our rotation who all defend and shoot efficiently. Albeit Poeltl is not a 3 ball guy. Hart/Poeltl/Caruso/Williams will be off the cap in 3 years or they can serve as trade filler if a big fish comes along. You still have Green/Porter/Thompson/Smith /Sengun/Hood as far as young assets to grow. IMO Thompson has more potential than everyone on our team other than maybe Smith.
Respectfully disagree. Thompson’s ceiling would not be the highest bc his jumper is more broken than WB. He’s also played ass competition
Kinda by definition Amen has a higher ceiling because you're assuming he figures out his shot. If that happens, he'd probably have more upside than Scoot (already talked about how much I liked him). I have major concerns about his shot (way more than Scoot), but I think his potential is pretty crazy. Sucks that his competition wasn't better.
Agreed. About the only thing he has going for him with his shot is that he appears to have a great work ethic (same for his brother). It's also unlikely he'll need to be a 40/50/90 type shooter given his other talents, but if it's not at least respectable, that will be a huge limitation to his game.
Yeah, to be fair I'm not super optimistic either. Just pointing out that his overall potential is still very high, especially if you want to argue that he can get a somewhat decent shot. That's a big if, but hard to deny the other strengths he has.
Take solace, we're the biggest market in the top 5 picks. San Antonio did the thing for 20 years, if they allowed this to happen I would all but assume the team moves to Austin within 2 years max. Get him near all that tech money. But a championship town, with a history of bigs and a bunch of people who buy jerseys is already here. Hakeem is waiting on him. Footwork isn't just post play, can you imagine this kid applying his talent to Hakeem's lessons about footwork and countermoves? About defense and blocking shots??? Tilman even built him a 70 million dollar gym to practice.
